The application of rule-based knowledge to load forecasting of electrical power systems [PDF]

open access: yes, 1990
The thesis describes short-term load forecasting by an expert system approach based on knowledge engineering. Conventionally, short-term load prediction is based on mathematical models which either extract the mathematical properties in the time series ...

Degradation mechanism of the von Willebrand factor A2 domain by nattokinase

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Nattokinase, a natto‐derived protease, exhibits potent antithrombotic effects. This study demonstrates that nattokinase directly cleaves the von Willebrand factor (vWF) A2 domain in vitro. Unlike the native regulator ADAMTS13, nattokinase degrades folded vWF independently of shear stress.

The ubiquitin‐proteasome system and autophagy as guardians of the cellular proteome

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This Perspective covers the three principles governing the crosstalk between the ubiquitin‐proteasome system and autophagy in cellular proteostasis: (1) a shared ubiquitin code routing substrates via shuttle factors or autophagy receptors; (2) spatial compartmentalization into phase‐separated degradation hubs and organelle‐specific modules (exemplified

Flow Separation in Rocket Nozzles, a Simple Criteria

open access: yes, 2005
Cold and hot flow tests were conducted to investigate the flow separation in rocket nozzles. The results are presented. A separation data base including a wide range of literature data is established to evaluate the influence of propellant combination ...

An unexpected alternative viologen electron mediator site in tungsten‐containing formate dehydrogenase

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
An unexpected alternative interaction site for ethyl viologen was identified in formate dehydrogenase 1 from Methylorubrum extorquens. Combined mutagenesis, kinetic analysis, and docking revealed that aromatic residues near an iron–sulfur cluster enable flavin mononucleotide‐independent electron transfer, offering a framework for engineering improved ...

Open-Wheel Aerodynamics: Effects of Tyre Deformation and Internal Flow [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Competitive performance of an F1 race car relies upon a well designed and highly developed aerodynamic system. In order to achieve this, total understanding of the downstream wake of exposed rotating wheels is essential.

Cell geometry and membrane protein crowding constrain Escherichia coli growth rate, overflow metabolism, respiration, and maintenance energy

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The physical dimensions and shape of bacterial cells define the surface area available to acquire nutrients and the volume available for synthesizing proteins and DNA. Here, we use computational systems biology to decode the importance of cell geometry as a major determinant of prokaryotic phenotype, including growth rate and metabolic efficiency. This

Thermal Modelling for the Motor in Semi-hermetic Screw Refrigeration Compressor under Part-load Conditions

open access: yes, 2012
Semi-hermetic screw refrigeration compressor is mostly driven by a three phase asynchronous induction motor with its squirrel cage rotor attached to the shaft of the compressor helical male rotor. The motor is cooled by low temperature refrigerant coming

The non-divergence Newton-based Load Flow Method in ill conditioned system [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
This paper implements the Optimal Multiplier Load Flow Method (OMLFM) in polar coordinate form to calculate low voltage solution and maximum loading point of system in ill conditioned system. OMLFM modifies the direction of state variables (buses voltage
