Structural insights into an engineered feruloyl esterase with improved MHET degrading properties

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
A feruloyl esterase was engineered to mimic key features of MHETase, enhancing the degradation of PET oligomers. Structural and computational analysis reveal how a point mutation stabilizes the active site and reshapes the binding cleft, expading substrate scope.

Neural controlled differential equations for residential heating load prediction

open access: yesJournal of Physics: Conference Series
Abstract State of the art control schemes for residential HVAC systems are underutilized due to the small margins of improvement compared to the modeling costs. This study explores the application of neural controlled differential equations (NCDEs) as a data-driven approach to predict baseboard energy usage in residential heating ...

Solid medium thermal engine [PDF]

open access: yes, 1974
A device is described which uses a single phase metallic working substance to convert thermal energy directly into mechanical energy. The device consists of a cylindrical metal tube which is free to rotate about its axis while being subjected to ...

Heat conduction in graphene flakes with inhomogeneous mass interface

open access: yes, 2011
Using nonequilibrium molecular dynamics simulations, we study the heat conduction in graphene flakes composed by two regions. One region is mass-loaded and the other one is intact.

Valosin‐containing protein counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its ATPase activity in vitro

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Biomolecular condensates formed by fused in sarcoma (FUS) are dissolved by high ATP concentrations yet persist in cells. Using a reconstituted system, we demonstrate that valosin‐containing protein (VCP), an AAA+ ATPase, counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its D2 ATPase activity.

Cell surface interactome analysis identifies TSPAN4 as a negative regulator of PD‐L1 in melanoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Using cell surface proximity biotinylation, we identified tetraspanin TSPAN4 within the PD‐L1 interactome of melanoma cells. TSPAN4 negatively regulates PD‐L1 expression and lateral mobility by limiting its interaction with CMTM6 and promoting PD‐L1 degradation.

Regeneration experiments below 10K in a regenerative-cycle cryocooler [PDF]

open access: yes, 1983
At temperatures below 10K, regenerative cycle cryocoolers are limited by regeneration losses in the helium working fluid which result from the decreasing heat capacity of the regenerating material and the increasing density of helium.

Analysis of coupled heat and moisture transfer in masonry structures

open access: yes, 2008
Evaluation of effective or macroscopic coefficients of thermal conductivity under coupled heat and moisture transfer is presented. The paper first gives a detailed summary on the solution of a simple steady state heat conduction problem with an emphasis ...

Peroxidasin enables melanoma immune escape by inhibiting natural killer cell cytotoxicity

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Peroxidasin (PXDN) is secreted by melanoma cells and binds the NK cell receptor NKG2D, thereby suppressing NK cell activation and cytotoxicity. PXDN depletion restores NKG2D signaling and enables effective NK cell–mediated melanoma killing. These findings identify PXDN as a previously unrecognized immune evasion factor and a potential target to improve
