Load Combinations and Load Factors for Construction
Journal of Performance of Constructed Facilities, 1996There is a current ASCE Standards Committee activity to develop a standard that provides engineers and designers with minimum recommended design loads for construction. This paper reports on the development of load combinations and load factors (for strength design) for this load standard.

Abstract The earlier codes of practice were based on elastic theory under service load and the latter codes are based on limit states approach. For the earlier codes, safety factors were associated with the values of permissible stress for concrete and reinforcement.

Annual load relief map, peak load and load factor analysis
Proceedings of the American Institute of Electrical Engineers, 1917Description of the annual load relief map which is a device for visualizing the entire yearly load of central stations. Review of load characteristics, as exemplified by the annual load relief map. Notes on daylight saving relative to the decreasing of peak load, and improvement in load factor. Analysis of load factors as applied to ``base'' and ``top''

Probability Based Load Criteria: Load Factors and Load Combinations
Journal of the Structural Division, 1982This is the second of two papers that describe a study conducted to develop probability-based load factors and load combinations suitable for use with common construction materials and technologies. In the second phase of the study, described in this paper, the checking equation format for the proposed load criteria was selected, and the load factors ...

THE major problems connected with the development of satisfactory structural strength requirements have long since been solved. We have, in this country, an empirical system of specification which fulfils the fundamental criterion of any strength system, namely, that failures in the air through lack of adequate strength of any component of an aircraft ...

The paper describes a simplified formulation of factors that can be used in design to evaluate certain dynamic effects of the wind, principally the effects of gusts. The material was prepared for use in conjunction with a new Scandinavian wind load code.

IN this issue appears a summary of a paper prepared by two of the research workers of the National Advisory Committee for Aeronautics which is most opportune. A number of minds, both among designers and scientists, have been exercising themselves with thoughts as to what may be the effect on a modern aeroplane of meeting a vertical current, commonly ...

Abstract Each of 17 tests was embedded in six different eight-test matrices. Stability of general factor loadings were determined over the six contexts. Correlations of factor loadings ranged from 0.52 to 0.94 with an average value of 0.83.

Simplified load combination factor for snow load
Structural Safety, 1993Abstract The load combination factor for snow load is formulated by a simplified development based on Turkstra's rule for load combination and the Gumbel distribution for the snow load model. The probability of exceedance expression is compared with an existing probabilistic load model.
