Homeostatic Role of Decorin in Right Ventricular Pressure Overload and Pulmonary Hypertension Induced Remodeling

open access: yesJACC: Basic to Translational Science
Summary: Right ventricular (RV) pressure loading induces RV profibrotic signaling and fibrosis associated with RV dysfunction. RV decorin protein levels are decreased in patients with chronic RV pressure loading.

A Frequency Regulation Strategy for Wind Power Based on Limited Over-Speed De-Loading Curve Partitioning

open access: yesIEEE Access, 2018
Over the past decade, wind power has rapidly developed, bringing great challenges to power system frequency control. To enable wind turbines (WTs) to operate with independent frequency regulation similar to that of synchronous generators, the development

Tau acetylation at K331 has limited impact on tau pathology in vivo

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We mapped tau post‐translational modifications in humanized MAPT knock‐in mice and in amyloid‐bearing double knock‐in mice. Acetylation within the repeat domain, particularly around K331, showed modest increases under amyloid pathology. To test functional relevance, we generated MAPTK331Q knock‐in mice.

Bond Behavior Between Steel Bar and Reactive Powder Concrete Under Repeated Loading

open access: yesBuildings
To investigate the influence of repeated loading on the bond behavior between steel bars and reactive powder concrete (RPC), this study conducted repeated loading tests on eight beam specimens and one static loading test as a control.

Calpain small subunit homodimerization is robust and calcium‐independent

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Calpains dimerize via penta‐EF‐hand (PEF) domains. Using single‐molecule force spectroscopy, we measured the strength and kinetics of PEF–PEF homodimer binding. The interaction is robust, shows a transient conformational step before dissociation, and remains largely insensitive to Ca2+.

Intravenous lacosamide in status epilepticus: Correlation between loading dose, serum levels, and clinical response

open access: yes, 2017
Intravenous lacosamide (LCM) is increasingly used in the treatment of status epilepticus (SE), but optimal loading dose and target serum levels are unclear.

Structural insights into an engineered feruloyl esterase with improved MHET degrading properties

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
A feruloyl esterase was engineered to mimic key features of MHETase, enhancing the degradation of PET oligomers. Structural and computational analysis reveal how a point mutation stabilizes the active site and reshapes the binding cleft, expading substrate scope.

Effect of salt loading on baroreflex sensitivity in reduced renal mass hypertension

open access: yesClinical and Experimental Hypertension, 2017
Background: High dietary salt, as well as renal mass reduction, is known to decrease baroreflex sensitivity in rats. However, the effect of high salt intake on baroreflex sensitivity is unknown in reduced renal mass (RRM) hypertension; therefore, the aim

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

Leakage analysis of gasketed flange joints under combined internap pressure and thermal loading

open access: yes, 2011
Leakage in Gasketed Flanged Joints (GFJs) have always been a great problem for the process industry. The sealing performance of a GFJ depends on its installation and applied loading conditions.
