LOCALLY LOCALIZED GRAVITY [PDF]

open access: yesInternational Journal of Modern Physics A, 2001
We study the fluctuation spectrum of linearized gravity around non-fine-tuned branes. We focus on the case of an AdS 4 brane in AdS 5. In this case, for small cosmological constant, the warp factor near the brane is essentially that of a Minkowski brane. However, far from the brane, the metric differs substantially.

Local perturbations perturb—exponentially–locally [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Mathematical Physics, 2015
We elaborate on the principle that for gapped quantum spin systems with local interaction, “local perturbations [in the Hamiltonian] perturb locally [the groundstate].” This principle was established by Bachmann et al. [Commun. Math. Phys. 309, 835–871 (2012)], relying on the “spectral flow technique” or “quasi-adiabatic continuation” [M. B.

Parathyroid Localization [PDF]

open access: yesThe Journal of Clinical Endocrinology & Metabolism, 1986
Twenty-nine consecutive patients with suspected primary hyperparathyroidism were examined preoperatively using ultrasound, sonographically guided fine needle aspiration, and aspirate immunostaining for PTH. In 25 patients, localization of enlarged parathyroid glands was successful.

Comparative Study of the Adverse Events Associated With Adjuvant Use of Dexmedetomidine and Clonidine in Local Anesthesia

open access: yesFrontiers in Medicine, 2021
Background: Although clonidine and dexmedetomidine are used as alpha-2 agonists to improve the quality and duration of blockade induced by local anesthetics, no study has been reported to compare their associated adverse events in local anesthesia.

What Are the Main Drivers of Young Consumers Purchasing Traditional Food Products? European Field Research

open access: yesFoods, 2018
In this research, the attitude of European young adults (age 18 to 30 years) regarding their consumption of local and traditional products was examined. The survey was conducted on a sample of 836 consumers from seven European countries (Greece, Bulgaria,

Local Hyperhidrosis

open access: yesDermatology, 1980
A case of local hyperhidrosis at the ulnar aspect of the left forearm-carpal region with exacerbation, especially during summer, is presented. The sweat function is normal on the remainder of the body. This case is rare, and few similar cases are known in the literature. The possible pathogenetic mechanisms are discussed.

Energy Localization through Locally Resonant Materials [PDF]

open access: yesMaterials, 2020
Among the attractive properties of metamaterials, the capability of focusing and localizing waves has recently attracted research interest to establish novel energy harvester configurations. In the same frame, in this work, we develop and optimize a system for concentrating mechanical energy carried by elastic anti-plane waves. The system, resembling a

Local renin angiotensin system in the reproductive system: a review of literature

open access: yesFrontiers in Endocrinology, 2013
The renin–angiotensin system (RAS) is well known as regulator of electrolytes and blood pressure. Besides this function, there are numerous studies supporting the idea of a local tissue RAS.

Regional Transport Indicators Used in Sweden for Measurement, Reporting and Verification of CO2 Emissions

open access: yesChallenges, 2015
Established practice is available as a reference for evaluating sustainable transport and CO2 emissions at national, European and global levels, but comparing corresponding systems at the regional and local levels are more challenging.

Radiofrequency Ablation of Hepatocellular Carcinoma (≤ 5 cm) with Saline-Perfused Electrodes: Factors Affecting Local Tumor Progression

open access: yes대한영상의학회지, 2020
Purpose We aimed to assess local tumor progression (LTP) rate and associated prognostic factors in 92 patients who underwent radiofrequency ablation (RFA) using saline-perfused electrodes to treat hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) (≤ 5 cm). Materials and
