The minimal exponent and k-rationality for local complete intersections [PDF]
We show that if $Z$ is a local complete intersection subvariety of a smooth complex variety $X$, of pure codimension $r$, then $Z$ has $k$-rational singularities if and only if $\widetilde{\alpha}(Z)>k+r$, where $\widetilde{\alpha}(Z)$ is the minimal ...

LoFTR: Detector-Free Local Feature Matching with Transformers [PDF]
We present a novel method for local image feature matching. Instead of performing image feature detection, description, and matching sequentially, we propose to first establish pixel-wise dense matches at a coarse level and later refine the good matches ...

LOCALLY LOCALIZED GRAVITY [PDF]
We study the fluctuation spectrum of linearized gravity around non-fine-tuned branes. We focus on the case of an AdS 4 brane in AdS 5. In this case, for small cosmological constant, the warp factor near the brane is essentially that of a Minkowski brane. However, far from the brane, the metric differs substantially.

Non-local Neural Networks [PDF]
Both convolutional and recurrent operations are building blocks that process one local neighborhood at a time. In this paper, we present non-local operations as a generic family of building blocks for capturing long-range dependencies.

Local translation in neuronal compartments: how local is local? [PDF]
Efficient neuronal function depends on the continued modulation of the local neuronal proteome. Local protein synthesis plays a central role in tuning the neuronal proteome at specific neuronal regions. Various aspects of translation such as the localization of translational machinery, spatial spread of the newly translated proteins, and their site of ...

AbstractThe counterfactual and regularity theories are universal accounts of causation. I argue that these should be generalized to produce local accounts of causation. A hallmark of universal accounts of causation is the assumption that apparent variation in causation between locations must be explained by differences in background causal conditions ...

Analyticity and the Unruh effect: a study of local modular flow [PDF]
The Unruh effect can be formulated as the statement that the Minkowski vacuum in a Rindler wedge has a boost as its modular flow. In recent years, other examples of states with geometrically local modular flow have played important roles in understanding

Which spaces look like an n-sphere through the eyes of the n-th Postnikov section functor and the n-connected cover functor? The answer is what we call the Postnikov genus of the n-sphere. We define in fact the notion of localization genus for any homotopical localization functor in the sense of Bousfield and Dror Farjoun.
