Cross-scale barriers to climate change adaptation in local government, Australia [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
This report documents a study aimed at identifying cross-scale barriers to planned adaptation within the context of local government in Australia, and the development of enabling actions to overcome these barriers.

Adaptation to Leaf Traits of Individual Trees in a Forest Appears Rare in Caterpillars

open access: yesEcology and Evolution
High herbivore abundances on trees surrounded by distantly related neighbors (phylogenetic isolation) might in part be due to local adaptation of herbivores to host trees, but this has not been tested.

Epigenetics in the wild

open access: yeseLife, 2015
Studies of wild populations of the model plant Arabidopsis thaliana have started to reveal how patterns of DNA methylation change in response to the local environment.

Protein pyrophosphorylation by inositol pyrophosphates — detection, function, and regulation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Protein pyrophosphorylation is an unusual signaling mechanism that was discovered two decades ago. It can be driven by inositol pyrophosphate messengers and influences various cellular processes. Herein, we summarize the research progress and challenges of this field, covering pathways found to be regulated by this posttranslational modification as ...

Short‐ and Long‐Term Growth Response to Multiple Drought Episodes: Evidence of Genetic Adaptation in a Conifer Species

open access: yesEcology and Evolution
Drought tolerance of tree species is a concern in the context of climate change, and tree ring analyses can be used to assess past growth response(s), to drought events.

The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

Future directions and priorities for Arctic bryophyte research

open access: yesArctic Science, 2017
The development of evidence-based international strategies for the conservation and management of Arctic ecosystems in the face of climate change is hindered by critical knowledge gaps in Arctic floristic diversity and evolution.
