Footprints of Natural Selection in North Atlantic Eels: A Review
The study of natural selection and local adaptation is a thriving field of research. Local adaptation is driven by environment components and results in locally adapted phenotypes with higher fitness relative to other phenotypes from other locations in ...

The Genomics of Human Local Adaptation [PDF]
Modern humans inhabit a variety of environments and are exposed to a plethora of selective pressures, leading to multiple genetic adaptations to local environmental conditions. These include adaptations to climate, UV exposure, disease, diet, altitude, or cultural practice and have generated important genetic and phenotypic differences amongst ...

Sex-specific effects of a parasite evolving in a female-biased host population
Background Males and females differ in many ways and might present different opportunities and challenges to their parasites. In the same way that parasites adapt to the most common host type, they may adapt to the characteristics of the host sex they ...

Due to climate change, drought frequencies and severities are predicted to increase across the United States. Plant responses and adaptation to stresses depend on plant genetic and environmental factors. Understanding the effect of those factors on plant

Adaptive RGB-D Localization [PDF]
The advent of RGB-D cameras which provide synchronized range and video data creates new opportunities for exploiting both sensing modalities for various robotic applications. This paper exploits the strengths of vision and range measurements and develops a novel robust algorithm for localization using RGB-D cameras.

ABSTRACT Pediatric gastroenteropancreatic neuroendocrine neoplasms (GEP‐NENs) are extremely rare and clinically heterogeneous. Management has largely been extrapolated from adult practice. This European Standard Clinical Practice Guideline (ESCP), developed by the EXPeRT network in collaboration with adult NEN experts, provides (adult) evidence ...

Locally adaptable mathematical morphology
We investigate how common binary mathematical morphology operators can be adapted so that the size of the structuring element (SE) can vary across the image. We show that when the SE are balls of a metric, locally adaptable erosion and dilation can be efficiently implemented as a variant of distance transformation algorithms.

Locally adaptive confidence bands [PDF]
We develop honest and locally adaptive confidence bands for probability densities. They provide substantially improved confidence statements in case of inhomogeneous smoothness, and are easily implemented and visualized. The article contributes conceptual work on locally adaptive inference as a straightforward modification of the global setting imposes
