ANALYSIS OF LOCAL CLIMATE ZONES OF KYIV CITY

open access: yesBulletin of Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv. Geography, 2021
According to the WUDAPT protocol which is based on the concept of local climate (LCZ) zones T. Oke and I. Stewart the territory of Kyiv was analyzed and was highlighted by the LСZ in the administrative boundaries of the city and within the built-up area (BUA). A map of the local climate zones of the city has been created.

Local Climate Zone in Xi’an City: A Novel Classification Approach Employing Spatial Indicators and Supervised Classification

open access: yesBuildings, 2023
The Local Climate Zone (LCZ), as a foundational element of urban climate zone classification proposed by Oke and Stewart, categorizes urban surface types based on 10 influential parameters affecting the urban heat island effect, such as building density,

Exploring Methods for Developing Local Climate Zones to Support Climate Research

open access: yesClimate, 2022
Meteorological and climate prediction models at the urban scale increasingly require more accurate and high-resolution data. The Local Climate Zone (LCZ) system is an initiative to standardize a classification scheme of the urban landscape, based mainly on the properties of surface structure (e.g., building, tree height, density) and surface cover ...

Projections of the urban and intra-urban scale thermal effects of climate change in the 21st century for cities in the Carpathian Basin

open access: yesHungarian Geographical Bulletin, 2021
This study evaluates the pattern of a nighttime climate index namely the tropical nights (Tmin ≥ 20ºC) during the 21st century in several different sized cities in the Carpathian Basin.

Compact Neural Architecture Search for Local Climate Zones Classification [PDF]

open access: yesESANN 2021 proceedings, 2021
State-of-the-art Computer Vision models achieve impressive performance but with an increasing complexity. Great advances have been made towards automatic model design, but accounting for model performance and low complexity is still an open challenge.

How relevant are local climate zones and urban climate zones for urban climate research? Dijon (France) as a case study [PDF]

open access: yesUrban Climate, 2018
Several typologies of urban surface properties have been proposed, in recent years, for urban heat island studies and climate modeling. Some were specifically developed for cities and urban climate issues, like the Urban Climate Zones, and the more recent Local Climate Zones.

Impact of urban environment on land surface temperature in local climate zones [PDF]

open access: yesE3S Web of Conferences, 2021
The replacement of the natural landscape by artificial environment has led to changes in the ecosystem and physical properties of the surface, such as heat storage capacity, and thermal conductivity properties.

Uncertainty-Guided Representation Learning in Local Climate Zone Classification

open access: yesIGARSS 2022 - 2022 IEEE International Geoscience and Remote Sensing Symposium, 2022
A significant leap forward in the performance of remote sensing models can be attributed to recent advances in machine and deep learning. Large data sets particularly benefit from deep learning models, which often comprise millions of parameters. On which part of the data a machine learner focuses on during learning, however, remains an open research ...

lczexplore: an R package to explore Local Climate Zone classifications

open access: yesJournal of Open Source Software, 2023
Climate change is a growing concern for city planners as Urban Heat Islands have an impact on mortality (Clarke, 1972), health in general (Lowe, 2016) and consumption of energy for building cooling (Malys et al., 2012) among other effects. A first step towards large scale study of urban climate is to define classes based on logical division of the ...
