Momentum in general relativity: local versus quasilocal conservation laws [PDF]

open access: yesClassical and Quantum Gravity, 2013
We construct a general relativistic conservation law for linear and angular momentum for matter and gravitational fields in a finite volume of space that does not rely on any spacetime symmetries. This work builds on our previous construction of a general relativistic energy conservation law with the same features.

Conservation laws with local flux constraints arising in traffic flow modeling*

open access: yesESAIM: Proceedings and Surveys, 2014
Specific traffic flow conditions, such as the presence of toll gates, construction sites or moving bottlenecks caused by slow moving vehicles, can be realistically modeled by conservation laws with local unilateral constraints on the ...

Local variational problems and conservation laws

open access: yesDifferential Geometry and its Applications, 2011
Let \(\pi:\mathbb{Y}\to \mathbb{X}\) be a fibered manifold with \(\dim \mathbb{X}=n\) and \(\dim \mathbb{Y}=n+m\). For \(r\geq0\), let \(J_r\mathbb{Y}\) be the space of \(r\)-jet prolongations of sections of \(\pi\). The natural fiberings \(\pi^r_s:J_r\mathbb{Y}\to J_s\mathbb{Y}\), \(r\geq s\), are affine bundles that induce the natural fibered ...

Galilei-invariant and energy-preserving extensions of Benjamin–Bona–Mahony-type equations

open access: yesPartial Differential Equations in Applied Mathematics, 2023
The classical Benjamin–Bona–Mahony equation (BBM equation) models unidirectional propagation of long gravity surface waves of small amplitude. Unlike many other water wave models, it lacks the Galilean invariance, which is an essential property of ...

Classification of Local Conservation Laws of Maxwell's Equations

open access: yesActa Applicandae Mathematica, 2001
A complete and explicit classification of all independent local conservation laws of Maxwell's equations in four dimensional Minkowski space is given. Besides the elementary linear conservation laws, and the well-known quadratic conservation laws associated to the conserved stress-energy and zilch tensors, there are also chiral quadratic conservation ...

Hierarchy of Conservation Laws of Diffusion--Convection Equations

open access: yes, 2004
We introduce notions of equivalence of conservation laws with respect to Lie symmetry groups for fixed systems of differential equations and with respect to equivalence groups or sets of admissible transformations for classes of such systems.

Miura-Type Transformations for Integrable Lattices in 3D

open access: yesMathematics, 2023
This article studies a class of integrable semi-discrete equations with one continuous and two discrete independent variables. At present, in the literature there are nine integrable equations of the form un+1,xj=f(un,xj,unj+1,unj,un+1j,un+1j−1) up to ...

Potential Conservation Laws

open access: yes, 2008
We prove that potential conservation laws have characteristics depending only on local variables if and only if they are induced by local conservation laws.

Local Conservation Laws in a Nonlinear Electrodynamics

open access: yesUkrainian Journal of Physics, 2022
By using a generalization of the Lie–Poisson brackets for the dual Maxwell and Born–Infeld field strength tensors, we construct the gauge invariant axial-vector conserved currents for Born–Infeld and Heisenberg–Euler nonlinear electrodynamics in the 4-dimensional Minkowski space-time.
