This chapter describes what is meant by local content and examines the diverse incentives that countries can use to favor domestic suppliers/contractors, and how these have necessarily changed over time. The unique nature of the Norwegian licensing system allowed the state to allocate offshore exploration and development responsibilities.

Local content refers to materials and products made in a country as opposed those that are imported. There is an increasing interest in the concept of local content as a means of supporting local economies and providing jobs (Belderbos & Sleuwaegen, 1997; Qiu & Tao, 2001; Corkin, 2012; Warner, 2011; Stephenson, 2013). Archives of Neurology, 1983
We examined the ability of a patient, who had a cerebral lesion involving the left posterior hemisphere, to identify and to localize stimuli applied to her "deafferented" right upper limb. We observed a functional dissociation between localization and identification in both performance and subjective report.

Health Content in Local Television News
Health Communication, 2007Local television news is an important source of health information for the public. Yet little is known about coverage of health issues on local television newscasts. This study examined 1,863 news stories that aired on 4 English-language channels and 1 Spanish channel in 7 U.S. markets during a composite week in 2000.

Local content policies have proliferated in several oil and gas countries, as a means of government intervention into the oil and gas industry. These policies have been used as vehicles of economic transformation in resource-rich countries. Local content policies were first adopted in the 1970s in Norway.

Norwegian Local Content Policy
2021The Norwegian petroleum industry is today strong and internationally competitive. Of course, this was not always the case: the industry was supported, protected, and nurtured at a time when states enjoyed much greater scope for sovereign autonomy. During a relatively short period of time, from about 1970–1986, the Norwegian authorities employed four ...

The broad shift in the region towards more assertive market regulation was discussed in Chapter 4, which highlighted the common concern of host governments to improve the capabilities of local companies involved in supply and services. This concept of local content is not a new one.

Semantic Localism and the Locality of Content
Erkenntnis, 1998Semantic localism is the view of meaning defended by Michael Devitt in Coming to Our Senses. In this paper I assess this view by considering how well it answers the concerns that led Akeel Bilgrami in Belief and Meaning to put forward his thesis of the locality of content.

Contention-conscious, locality-preserving locks
Proceedings of the 21st ACM SIGPLAN Symposium on Principles and Practice of Parallel Programming, 2016Over the last decade, the growing use of cache-coherent NUMA architectures has spurred the development of numerous locality-preserving mutual exclusion algorithms. NUMA-aware locks such as HCLH, HMCS, and cohort locks exploit locality of reference among nearby threads to deliver high lock throughput under high ...
