Local drug delivery for percutaneous coronary intervention

Pharmacology & Therapeutics, 2011
Since the first successful coronary angioplasty by Andreas Grüntzig in 1977, the field of percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) has expanded rapidly. Rapid technological refinement has seen equipment and complementary pharmacotherapy to improve the outcome of PCI evolve dramatically, driven by clinical need and enormous market forces.

Local drug and gene delivery through microbubbles

Progress in Cardiovascular Diseases, 2001
Ultrasound contrast agents (microbubbles) lower the threshold for cavitation by ultrasound energy. Ultrasound microbubbles may be used as cavitation nuclei for drug and gene delivery. By tailoring the physical properties of microbubbles and coating materials, drugs and genetic drugs can be incorporated into ultrasound contrast agents.

Local drug delivery in recurrent malignant gliomas

Neurological Sciences, 2005
In recurrent malignant gliomas, we scheduled a protocol by adding to systemic temozolomide a local treatment delivered through a reservoire positioned in the surgically created cavity, consisting of either mitoxantrone, liposome-loaded doxorubicine or nimustine (ACNU). The progression-free survival (PFS) and survival time (ST) of the whole group of 112

Local Delivery of Antirestenotic Drugs

1999
In the past several years, percutaneous catheter-based techniques have been used with increasing frequency to relieve symptomatic narrowing of the coronary arteries.1,2Yet, despite advances in catheter technology and surgical technique, initial procedural success is still limited by acute thrombosis in 5% or clinical restenosis within six months in 30 ...

Localized targeted antiangiogenic drug delivery for glioblastoma

Journal of Neuro-Oncology, 2018
Systemic delivery of antiangiogenic agents has been ineffective in improving the overall survival of patients with both primary and recurrent glioblastoma, in part due to dose-limiting toxicities. With the development of new and efficient localized delivery methods and vehicles, an otherwise lethal dose of antiangiogenic chemotherapy can be used to ...

Periodontal Disease Treatment by Local Drug Delivery

Journal of Periodontology, 1985
The subgingival microbiologic composition of diseased periodontal sites was evaluated by darkfield microscopy before and after scaling or local delivery of tetracycline. A standardized sampling and counting method using a crevicular washing technique was developed to determine both numbers and proportions of morphotypes using darkfield microscopy ...

Rationale for local drug delivery.

Seminars in interventional cardiology : SIIC, 1998
Although advances during the last decade have transformed the management of coronary artery disease, deficiencies in our understanding of the basic processes of arterial thrombosis and restenosis after percutaneous intervention continue to present major challenges to their prevention.

Periadventitial local drug delivery to target restenosis

Vascular Pharmacology, 2018
The adventitia functions as a dynamic compartment for cell trafficking into and out of the artery wall, and communicates with medial and intimal cells. The resident cells in the tunica adventitia play an integral role in the regulation of vessel wall structure, repair, tone, and remodeling. Following injury to the vascular wall, adventitial fibroblasts
