Automatic Facial Features Localization
International Conference on Computational Intelligence for Modelling, Control and Automation and International Conference on Intelligent Agents, Web Technologies and Internet Commerce (CIMCA-IAWTIC'06), 2005Facial features localization is an important part of many applications such as face recognition, computer-human interface, and surveillance. A way to determine the facial features automatically, without the participation of a human, would be desirable. In this work, we use the active shape models and evolution strategies, to find the facial features in

From local features to local regions
Proceedings of the 19th ACM international conference on Multimedia, 2011Local features are omnipresent in computer vision applications and an important building block for applications like object recognition and image retrieval. Such applications often involve feature matching or use an inverted index to efficiently retrieve similar local features for a given query.

An approach for local feature evaluation
2015 12th International Conference on Ubiquitous Robots and Ambient Intelligence (URAI), 2015In this paper, we introduce a unified feature evaluation toolbox, which contains several state of the art local features such as SIFT, SURF, KAZE, ORB, BRISK, and BIO. With our toolbox, we perform standard evaluation metrics (repeatability, precision-recall), but also the more practical assessment in terms of vision applications.

Automated localization of retinal features
Applied Optics, 2011Retinal fundus images are widely used in the diagnosis and treatment of various eye diseases, such as diabetic retinopathy and glaucoma. A computer-aided retinal fundus image analysis could provide an immediate detection and characterization of retinal features prior to specialist inspection.

Localization as a feature of mmWave communication
2016 International Wireless Communications and Mobile Computing Conference (IWCMC), 2016mmWave (millimeter-Wave) is a very promising technology for the future wireless communication. To mitigate its high attenuation characteristics, mmWave communication frequently employs directional beamforming for both transmission and reception. Localization commonly takes advantage of directionality in RF frequencies in urban and indoor environments ...

Local Features for Image Retrieval
2001Global image features, although quite successful for a surprisingly large number of queries, are nevertheless restricted in their usefulness. They are less effective when e.g. looking for other images that contain the same object or simply the same scene but seen from a very different viewpoint.

We introduce a new type of local feature based on the phase and amplitude responses of complex-valued steerable filters. The design of this local feature is motivated by a desire to obtain feature vectors which are semi-invariant under common image deformations, yet distinctive enough to provide useful identity information.

Feature Extraction Using Problem Localization
IEEE Transactions on Pattern Analysis and Machine Intelligence, 1982Feature extraction is considered as a mean-quare estimation of the Bayes risk vector. The problem is simplified by partitioning the distribution space into local subregions and performing a linear estimation in each subregion. A modified clustering algorithm is used to fimd the partitioning which minimizes the mean-square error.

3D Object Localization Using Local Shape Features
2006 9th International Conference on Control, Automation, Robotics and Vision, 2006This paper proposes a method to localize a 3D object in cluttered environment. Model of the object is represented by local shape features, computed from some reference images. Localization is performed by stereo images captured simultaneously by a pair of calibrated cameras. First the object is recognized in both images, using the local shape features.

An evaluation of local features on satellite images
2015 38th International Conference on Telecommunications and Signal Processing (TSP), 2015Satellite image matching is an important task when integrating information from different sensors, viewpoints or taken at different times. This paper presents an evaluation of local features on satellite images. Different blob, edge and corner based detectors have been tested against many variables and parameters.
