Local Invariant Feature Detectors: A Survey [PDF]

open access: yesFoundations and Trends® in Computer Graphics and Vision, 2007
In this survey, we give an overview of invariant interest point detectors, how they evolved over time, how they work, and what their respective strengths and weaknesses are. We begin with defining the properties of the ideal local feature detector.

Improving Multi-Histogram-Based Reversible Watermarking Using Optimized Features and Adaptive Clustering Number

open access: yesIEEE Access, 2020
For the multi-histogram-based reversible watermarking (MHRW) scheme, the performance greatly depends on the multi-histogram construction, which remains a challenge in this field.

Comparative Evaluation of Hemodiafiltration, Hemoperfusion, and Standard Hemodialysis on Efficacy, Inflammatory Control, Dialysis Adequacy, and Safety in End‐Stage Renal Disease: A Prospective Observational Study

open access: yesTherapeutic Apheresis and Dialysis, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Chronic micro‐inflammation in patients with end‐stage renal disease (ESRD) is a significant driver of cardiovascular complications and diminished quality of life. While standard hemodialysis (SHD) effectively manages small‐molecule clearance, its ability to remove medium‐to‐large uremic toxins—the primary catalysts of systemic ...

Gait feature subset selection by mutual information [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
Feature selection is an important pre-processing step for pattern recognition. It can discard irrelevant and redundant information that may not only affect a classifier’s performance, but also tell against system’s efficiency.

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

Recognition with local features: the kernel recipe [PDF]

open access: yesProceedings Ninth IEEE International Conference on Computer Vision, 2003
Recent developments in computer vision have shown that local features can provide efficient representations suitable for robust object recognition. Support vector machines have been established as powerful learning algorithms with good generalization capabilities.

Organizing the interface—Plasma membrane architecture and receptor dynamics in virus‐cell interactions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Plasma membranes contain dynamic nanoscale domains that organize lipids and receptors. Because viruses operate at similar scales, this architecture shapes early infection steps, including attachment, receptor engagement, and entry. Using influenza A virus and HIV‐1 as examples, we highlight how receptor nanoclusters, multivalent glycan interactions ...
