Abstract Locavorism—the injunction to locally produced foods—has been subjected to a barrage of philosophical critiques. Here two are examined carefully. In brief, they reject extreme locavorism in favor a more moderate view that acknowledges the impracticality of sourcing literally everything one eats on a local basis.

Local Foods and Local Economic Performance
Applied Economic Perspectives and Policy, 2020AbstractUsing US county‐level data, we employ a difference‐in‐difference approach to model the effect of direct to consumer local foods activity on local economic performance. We find no evidence that growth in local foods activity is linked to economic performance measured by per capita income and some evidence of a decline in employment.

2017Appropriate complementary food is a must for optimum growth of infants and children. The food should be diverse and be given in sufficient quantities 2-4 times a day depending upon age. Poverty, food insecurity, and lack of awareness regarding the choice of nutritious food ingredients are deterrents to optimum complementary feeding.
