Structural insights into an engineered feruloyl esterase with improved MHET degrading properties
A feruloyl esterase was engineered to mimic key features of MHETase, enhancing the degradation of PET oligomers. Structural and computational analysis reveal how a point mutation stabilizes the active site and reshapes the binding cleft, expading substrate scope.

On Oliver's p-group conjecture : : II. [PDF]
Let $p$ be an odd prime and $S$ a finite $p$-group. B.~Oliver's conjecture arises from an open problem in the theory of $p$-local finite groups and says that a certain characteristic subgroup $\mathfrak{X}(S)$ of $S$ always contains the Thompson subgroup.

The Dade group of a metacyclic $p$-group. [PDF]
The Dade group $D(P)$ of a finite $p$-group $P$, formed by equivalence classes of endo-permutation modules, is a finitely generated abelian group. Its torsion-free rank equals the number of conjugacy classes of non-cyclic subgroups of $P$ and it is ...

A note on the localization of $J$-groups
Let $\widetilde{JO}(X)=\widetilde{KO}(X)/TO(X)$ be the J-group of a connected finite CW complex X. We Obtain two computable formulas of $TO(X)_{(p)}$, the localization of $TO(X)$ at a prime p. Then we show how to use these two formulas of $TO(X)_{(p)}$ to find the J-orders of elements of $\widetilde{KO}(CP^m)$, at least the 2 and 3 primary factors of ...

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

Local Group-Groupoids and Local Crossed Modules
In this paper we define the notion of local crossed module for local groups and prove that these are categorically equivalent to local group ...

Estimating the dynamical masses of dwarf galaxies in the presence of binary-star contamination
Context. The line-of-sight (l.o.s.) velocity dispersion (σlos) of the stellar component of ultra-faint-dwarf galaxies (UFDs) typically ranges from 3 to 6 km s−1. Applying standard mass estimators, this hints at extreme dynamical mass-to-light ratios (M/L)

The Local Group: Inventory and History
My presentation was an overview of what we know about the Local Group of galaxies, primarily from optical imaging and spectroscopy. AGB stars are on the whole a very sparse and unrepresentative stellar population in most Local Group galaxies. However, more detailed studies of star formation histories and chemical evolution properties of populations ...
