The relationship between local scalp skin temperature and cutaneous perfusion during scalp cooling [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
Cooling the scalp during administration of chemotherapy can prevent hair loss. It reduces both skin blood flow and hair follicle temperature, thus affecting drug supply and drug effect in the hair follicle. The extent to which these mechanisms contribute

Developmental and Epileptic Encephalopathy due to Biallelic Pathogenic Variants in PIGM

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective PIGM encodes a critical enzyme in the glycosylphosphatidylinositol (GPI)‐anchor biosynthesis pathway. While promoter‐region mutations in PIGM have been associated with a relatively mild phenotype characterized by portal vein thrombosis and absence seizures, recent evidence suggests that coding‐region mutations result in a more severe

Method for Characterization of Material Loss from Modular Head-Stem Taper Surfaces of Hip Replacement Devices [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Assessment of the head-stem taper junction requires the estimation of material loss from the taper surfaces of both femoral head and stem. This paper describes a method for the measurement and analysis of material loss from the modular taper junction of ...

Ketogenic Diet as an Epigenetic Therapy in SETD1B‐Related Epilepsy

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Histone lysine methyltransferases such as SETD1B regulate chromatin structure and gene transcription. Ketone bodies, including butyrate, act as histone deacetylase inhibitors. We report a 4‐year‐old boy with SETD1B‐related absence epilepsy, refractory to conventional medications, who achieved sustained > 90% seizure reduction on the Modified ...

Role of Impoundments Created by Low-Head Dams in Affecting Fish Assemblages in Subtropical Headwater Streams in China

open access: yesFrontiers in Ecology and Evolution, 2022
Low-head dams are ubiquitous human disturbances that degrade aquatic ecosystem function worldwide. The localized effects of low-head dams have been relatively well documented; however, most previous studies have ignored the concealed process caused by ...

EFFECT OF INLET AND OUTLET GEOMETRIC SHAPE VARIATIONS OF A PIPE CULVERT ON LOCAL HEAD-LOSSES [PDF]

open access: yesJES. Journal of Engineering Sciences, 2015
This research investigates the losses resulting from the sudden contraction and expansion of a pipe culvert. A four hundred runs were carried out considering various angles and contraction ratios at inlet and outlet of the pipe culvert and downstream submerged ratios with different flow conditions. Results were analyzed and graphically presented.

A Depolarizing Leak in Sodium Bicarbonate Cotransporter NBCe1 Causes Brain Edema

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objectives SLC4A4 encodes electrogenic sodium bicarbonate cotransporter NBCe1, prominently expressed in kidney and brain. Recessive loss‐of‐function variants in SLC4A4 cause proximal renal tubular acidosis, no brain edema. In the brain, NBCe1 is expressed by astrocytes, where it regulates pH and mediates astrocyte volume changes.

Localizing by Describing: Attribute-Guided Attention Localization for Fine-Grained Recognition

open access: yes, 2016
A key challenge in fine-grained recognition is how to find and represent discriminative local regions. Recent attention models are capable of learning discriminative region localizers only from category labels with reinforcement learning.

Memory and Resting‐State Connectivity in Acute Transient Global Amnesia: A Case–Control fMRI Study

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background and Objectives Transient global amnesia (TGA) is a striking model of isolated amnesia. While hippocampal lesions are well described, the network‐level mechanisms and the precise neuropsychological profile remain debated. Our objective was thus to characterize functional and neuropsychological correlates of acute TGA and their ...

SAR-to-Optical Remote Sensing Image Translation Method Based on InternImage and Cascaded Multi-Head Attention

open access: yesRemote Sensing
Synthetic aperture radar (SAR), with its all-weather and all-day observation capabilities, plays a significant role in the field of remote sensing. However, due to the unique imaging mechanism of SAR, its interpretation is challenging.
