Local Regularity of the Minimum Time Function
Journal of Optimization Theory and Applications, 2014We consider the minimum time problem of optimal control theory. It is well known that under appropriate controllability type conditions the minimum time function has an open domain of definition and is locally Lipschitz on it. Thus, it is differentiable almost everywhere on its domain.

Local minimum-BER linear multiuser detector
IEEE International Symposium on Communications and Information Technology, 2005. ISCIT 2005., 2006The bit-error rate (BER) cost function of linear multiuser detectors is considered. It is shown that the minimum-BER (MBER) linear multiuser detection can be converted into a constrained optimization problem. Then the local MBER (LMBER) linear multiuser detector is proposed. And an iteration algorithm for the LMBER detector is developed.

Minimum description length with local geometry
2008 5th IEEE International Symposium on Biomedical Imaging: From Nano to Macro, 2008Establishing optimal correspondence across object populations is essential to statistical shape analysis. Minimizing the description length (MDL) is a popular method for finding correspondence. In this work, we extend the MDL method by incorporating various local curvature metrics.

Minimum cost localization problem in wireless sensor networks
Ad Hoc Networks, 2010Localization is a fundamental problem in wireless sensor networks. Current localization algorithms mainly focus on checking the localizability of a network and/or how to localize as many nodes as possible given a static set of anchor nodes and distance measurements.

Hierarchy of Local Minimum Solutions of Heisenberg's Uncertainty Principle
Physical Review Letters, 2000We derive a new hierarchy of local minimum Heisenberg-uncertainty states by introducing a superposition of "small waves" onto some initial state. Our objective is to increase the resolution in one observable, with the least decrease in the resolution in the conjugate observable.

A locally recoverable code (for brevity LRC) is a code such that a symbol in any coordinate of a codeword can be repaired by using the symbols in at most r other positions. These codes are used in distributed storage systems by Microsoft Azure and Hadoop since they can repair a failed node by accessing the minimum number of the surviving nodes.

Distributed source localization via projection onto the nearest local minimum
2008 IEEE International Conference on Acoustics, Speech and Signal Processing, 2008When addressing the energy-based source localization problem using wireless sensor networks, distributed localization method is necessary to reduce the energy and bandwidth consumption. In this paper, a novel distributed source localization method called projection onto the nearest local minimum (PONLM) is proposed, which can be carried out at each of ...
