Phenomenological local single-particle potentials and their relationship to non-local potentials

Nuclear Physics A, 1981
Abstract The single-particle potential for bound nucleons is probably complex and non-local, whereas in phenomenological calculations it is assumed to be real and local. We demonstrate that in practice the neglect of the imaginary part of the potential is a good approximation.

Self-consistent effective local potentials

The Journal of Chemical Physics, 2007
An effective local potential (ELP) is a multiplicative operator whose deviation from a given nonlocal potential has the smallest variance evaluated with a prescribed single-determinant wave function. ELPs are useful in density functional theory as alternatives to optimized effective potentials (OEPs) because they do not require special treatment in ...

Potential curves of Li2+ by a local potential method

Chemical Physics Letters, 1974
Abstract Local potential calculations have been carried out for the first eight 2 Σ g , 2 Σ u and the first five 2 Π g , 2 Π u states of Li 2 + . The results indicate the usefulness of calculating highly excited potential curves by a local potential method.

Localization in Periodic Potentials

2011
This book provides a comprehensive treatment of the Gross–Pitaevskii equation with a periodic potential; in particular, the localized modes supported by the periodic potential. It takes the mean-field model of the Bose–Einstein condensation as the starting point of analysis and addresses the existence and stability of localized modes.

Thermodynamic Potential in Local Turbulence Simulations

Physical Review Letters, 2004
For the reduced local equations customary in, e.g., the computation of turbulence in tokamaks the energy is still a conserved quantity. However, kinetic and magnetic energy do not appear in the reduced energy functional and thus are not constrained by it, since they are ordered small compared to the fluctuations of internal energy in the reduction ...
