Local Reference Frames vs. Global Reference Frame for Mobile Robot Localization and Path Planning

2006 Fifth Mexican International Conference on Artificial Intelligence, 2006
This work aims at two major goals: i) to estimate the position of a mobile robot under sensor and control errors; and ii) to provide a motion strategy that outputs a path so that the strategy diminishes the uncertainty about the robot?s position both while the robot is moving along the output path and when the robot reaches a goal location. To diminish

Lattice Boltzmann Approach for Local Reference Frames

open access: yesCommunications in Computational Physics, 2011
In this paper we present a generalized lattice Boltzmann based approach for sliding-mesh local reference frame. This scheme exactly conserves hydrodynamic fluxes across local reference frame interface. The accuracy and robustness of our scheme are demonstrated by benchmark validations.

Toward the Repeatability and Robustness of the Local Reference Frame for 3D Shape Matching: An Evaluation

IEEE Transactions on Image Processing, 2018
The local reference frame (LRF), as an independent coordinate system constructed on the local 3D surface, is broadly employed in 3D local feature descriptors. The benefits of the LRF include rotational invariance and full 3D spatial information, thereby greatly boosting the distinctiveness of a 3D feature descriptor.

Selecting targets for local reference frames

Proceedings. 1998 IEEE International Conference on Robotics and Automation (Cat. No.98CH36146), 2002
Addresses the problem of seeking out parts of the environment that provide adequate features in order to perform robot localization. The objective is to choose good regions in which local metric maps can be established. A distinctiveness measure is defined as a measure of how well the environment allows the robot to accomplish a task, in our case the ...

Local and Global Reference Frames for Environmental Spaces

Quarterly Journal of Experimental Psychology, 2014
Two experiments examined how locations in environmental spaces, which cannot be overseen from one location, are represented in memory: by global reference frames, multiple local reference frames, or orientation-free representations. After learning an immersive virtual environment by repeatedly walking a closed multisegment route, participants pointed ...

Site-based description of R1 relaxation in local reference frames

Journal of Magnetic Resonance, 2023
Nuclear magnetic spin relaxation in the presence of an applied radiofrequency field depends critically on chemical exchange processes that transfer nuclear spins between chemical or conformational environments with distinct resonance frequencies. Characterization of chemical exchange processes in R1ρ relaxation dispersion, CEST, and DEST experiments ...

Global and local reference frames

Rendiconti Lincei, 2015
The goal of this review paper is to recall the concept of geodetic reference frame, showing its intrinsic dependence from all the information and choices related to its realization, and to discuss the still alive distinction between “global” and “local” reference frames, considering the unbreakable link between Geodesy and Geophysics.
