Selecting Spatial Frames of Reference for Visual Target Localization

Experimental Psychology, 2005
Abstract. This study examined the selection of spatial frames of reference for target localization in visual search. Participants searched for local target characters in global character configurations. The local targets could be localized relative to the character configuration in which they were embedded or relative to the presentation screen on ...

Change of reference frame for tactile localization during child development

Developmental Science, 2009
AbstractTemporal order judgements (TOJ) for two tactile stimuli, one presented to the left and one to the right hand, are less precise when the hands are crossed over the midline than when the hands are uncrossed. This ‘crossed hand’ effect has been considered as evidence for a remapping of tactile input into an external reference frame.

Contribution of external reference frame to tactile localization

Experimental Brain Research
The purpose of the present study was to elucidate whether an external reference frame contributes to tactile localization in blindfolded healthy humans. In a session, the right forearm was passively moved until the elbow finally reached to the target angle, and participants reached the left index finger to the right middle fingertip.

Global Navigation Through Local Reference Frames

2006
The contribution of this paper is that illustrates the use of funneling actions in combination with local deictic reference frames for forming consistent and useful large scale maps These maps do not rely on any geodetic sensors Indications for the feasibility of such representations in humans, and other species, can be found in studies of spatial ...

Video deblurring by utilizing non-local reference frames

2022
In this thesis, we study the problem of video deblurring by utilizing nonlocal reference frames. Our key observation is that some frames in a video are much sharper than others, and thus we can transfer the texture information in these sharp reference frames to blurry frames.

Building and maintaining a local on-orbit reference frame model

SPIE Proceedings, 1991
A method is presented for building an internal world model of a local on-orbit reference frame using typical sensor data available to a robotic spacecraft. In accordance with the approach proposed here, the model is driven by the Clohessey-Wiltshire (CW) equations to predict future states for maneuver planning and monitoring during sensor blackout ...

Neural correlates of tactile localization in external and somatotopic frames of reference

2023
Previous behavioral work has shown that tactile stimuli are represented in both somatotopic and external frames of reference. Our knowledge of the neural correlates of external representations of tactile stimuli is limited. For example, multi-voxel pattern analysis (MVPA) studies of tactile localization have not disambiguated between somatotopic and ...

Locally Adapted Reference Frame Fields using Moving Least Squares

IEEE Transactions on Visualization and Computer Graphics
The detection and analysis of features in fluid flow are important tasks in fluid mechanics and flow visu alization. One recent class of methods to approach this problem is to first compute objective optimal reference frames, relative to which the input vector field becomes as steady as possible. However, existing methods either optimize locally over a

Noninvariant Velocity of Light and Locally Equivalent Reference Frames

1997
The large lifetime increase of muons observed in storage ring experiments is independent of muon acceleration. We assume this to be a manifestation of a general principle: only velocities matter for length contraction and time dilation phenomena. Therefore local measurements of space, time and velocity in an accelerated reference frame must give the ...

IGS/EPN Reference Frame Realization in Local GPS Networks

2009
The modern geodetic reference systems (e.g. ITRS) are realized by reference frames, i.e. a set of stations with position coordinates at a reference epoch and station velocities (e.g. ITRF2000). IGS (International GNSS Service) global network and EPN (EUREF Permanent Network) regional network stations are parametrized in this way.
