Domain Decomposition with Local Mesh Refinement
SIAM Journal on Scientific and Statistical Computing, 1992The authors present a preconditioned Krylov iterative algorithm which can be used to solve systems of linear equations arising from the discretization of partial differential equations. The main feature of their method lies in the combined admissibility of domain decomposition and local mesh refinements. By way of illustration, the method is applied to

Multigrid for Locally Refined Meshes
SIAM Journal on Scientific Computing, 1999A multilevel method for the solution of finite element methods on locally refined meshes is introduced. An upper bound for the condition number is given in the two-level semi-positive definite case under the additional assumption that the coefficient matrix is diagonally dominant.

Local grid refinement is a technique which aims to provide improved accuracy in sub-regions of a reservoir simulation study. HEINEMANN et al (1983) discuss dynamic grid refinement to improve the resolution at flood fronts. However, most papers on the subject published since MROSOVSKY et al (1973) focus on enhanced accuracy near wells.

Localization refinement for wireless sensor networks
Computer Communications, 2009Being a key supporting technology, localization is of significance to the research and implement of other attracting applications in wireless sensor networks. The positioning accuracy and energy consumption are two major indicators of localization performance.

Flow simulation with locally-refined LBM
Proceedings of the 2007 symposium on Interactive 3D graphics and games, 2007We simulate 3D fluid flow by a locally-refined lattice Boltzmann method (LBM) on graphics hardware. A low resolution LBM simulation running on a coarse grid models global flow behavior of the entire domain with low consumption of computational resources.

The applications under consideration in this book are extremely challenging with respect to computing time and memory. The parallelization of the flow solvers and the use of multigrid solvers have enabled the computation of viscous (steady-state) flows around full aircraft within a few hours.

Local Mesh Refinement Multilevel Techniques
SIAM Journal on Scientific and Statistical Computing, 1987The authors study local refinements for boundary value problems with singularities in the framework of multigrid and finite-difference methods. The model Poisson problem with a-priori defined refinements is used. The conclusions of the paper are supported by heuristic arguments and computational experiments. The method uses rectangular grid patches for
