Adaptive Local Grid Refinement

Proceedings of SPE Rocky Mountain Regional Meeting, 1988
ABSTRACT In the multidimensional numerical simulation of certain multiphase fluid flow processes, many phenomena are sufficiently localized and transient that self-adaptive local grid refinement techniques are necessary to resolve the local physical behavior.

Locally Refined Spaces

2003
In general, a uniform refinement of the discretization is not adequate, since this results in a huge number of discretization points also in regions where the solution is smooth and a coarser grid would be sufficient for appropriately resolving the solution.

Refinement-Based Verification of Local Synchronization Algorithms

2011
Synchronization algorithms are mandatory for simulating local computation models of distributed algorithms. Therefore, correctness of these algorithms becomes crucial, because it gives confidence that local computations are simulated as designed and do not behave harmfully. However, these algorithms are considered to be very complex to prove since they

A Local Refinement Algorithm for Data Partitioning

2001
A local refinement method for data partitioning has been constructed. The method balances the workload and minimizes locally the number of edge-cuts. The arithmetic complexity of the algorithm is low. The method is well suited for refinement in multilevel partitioning where the intermediate partitions are near optimal but slightly unbalanced.

Curvilinear Local Grid Refinement

All Days, 1998
Abstract A local orthogonal curvilinear coordinate system is used for Local Grid Refinement (LGR) of rectangular wellblocks in a finite difference grid. The refinement is hybrid since the curvilinear well-subgrids are approximately radial close to wells, while approximately rectilinear near wellblock boundaries.

Local Refinement for Isogeometric Analysis

2012
During the last chapter several aspects of isogeometric analysis were discussed. This chapter will focus on the main topic of this thesis: adaptivity. Adaptive simulation is essential for simulating complex problems and using the available resources where they are needed. The uniform refinement techniques presented in the previous chapter turns out not
