Local scour at abutments: A review
Failure of bridges due to local scour has motivated many investigators to explore the causes of scouring and to predict the maximum scour depth at abutments. In this paper, a detailed review of the up-to-date work on scour at abutments is presented including all possible aspects, such as flow field, scouring process, parameters affecting scour depth ...

Local scour at single piers revisited
The paper summarizes recent contributions of the authors on the effects of relative flow depth, relative sand size, time and fluid viscosity, on the scour depth at single piers. These contributions rely on unique experiments in the sense that they are systematically longer than the vast majority of those found in the literature.

Experimental study on local scour around the pile on the sandy seabed under wave action
The local scour caused by a pile on a slope differs to that at the flat sand bed. A 1:16 slope with sediment median size of 0.32 mm was set up, and an experimental study of local scour around the pile under the action of regular wave was conducted. Under

Clean Cut is a multimodal, adaptive, checklist‐based infection prevention programme designed to improve compliance with six critical perioperative infection prevention practices. After introducing the programme at five hospitals in Ethiopia, compliance with critical infection prevention standards significantly improved and the relative risk of ...

Physical Modeling of Local Scouring around Bridge Piers in Erodable Bed
The construction of bridges in alluvial channels will cause a contraction in the waterway at the bridge site. The contraction in the waterway will cause a significant scour at that site.

Research on the Wing-Type Antiscour Device of Pier Based on Scour Test and Numerical Simulation
In order to reduce the local scour before the antiscour device of piers, this paper proposed an improvement on a “V-type” device. That was to say, wing plates were set on the surface of the “V-type” device to enhance the diversion and reduce the local ...

River bridge piers may collapse due to the local scour around their foundations. It is known that local scour is an effect of the three-dimensional flow field that develops near the pier and that the geometric complexity of a non-cylindrical pier may ...

Local scour downstream stilling basins is so complex that it makes it difficult to establish a general empirical model to provide accurate estimation for scour depth. Lack estimation of local scour can endanger to stability of hydraulic structure and can

Using side flow jets as a scour countermeasure downstream of a sluice gate
Background Local scour is one of the main problems affecting the stability and operation of control hydraulic structures. Many techniques were used to control the resulting scour.
