Numerical Analysis of Local Thermal Non‐Equilibrium Experiments Reveals Conceptual Regimes of Grain‐Scale Heat Transport

open access: yesWater Resources Research
Modeling heat transport in saturated porous media typically assumes local thermal equilibrium (LTE) conditions, though this assumption lacks justification.

Hydrogen‐Assisted Fracture of Iron‐Based Fe–Ni–Al Alloys

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Principal relations and fracture mechanisms of single‐phase and precipitate‐strengthened Fe–Ni–Al alloys subjected to prior electrochemical hydrogen charging are identified. The mechanisms of hydrogen effect on strength and microhardness are discussed, including hydrogen‐induced increase in microhardness and the role of hydrogen in fracture behavior ...

Comparison between Two Local Thermal Non Equilibrium Criteria in Forced Convection through a Porous Channel

open access: yesJournal of Applied Fluid Mechanics, 2015
Two criteria are used and compared to investigate the local thermal equilibrium assumption in a forced convection through a porous channel. The first criterion is based on the maximum local temperature difference between the solid and fluid phases, while

Markovian master equations for quantum thermal machines: local versus global approach

open access: yesNew Journal of Physics, 2017
The study of quantum thermal machines, and more generally of open quantum systems, often relies on master equations. Two approaches are mainly followed.

The onset of double diffusive convection in a viscoelastic fluid-saturated porous layer with non-equilibrium model. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2013
The onset of double diffusive convection in a viscoelastic fluid-saturated porous layer is studied when the fluid and solid phase are not in local thermal equilibrium.

The significance of local thermal non-equilibrium in simulations of enhanced geothermal recovery [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Accessing the thermo-mechanical response of large deep hot dry rock (HDR) reservoirs during geothermal extraction remains a challenging task that can be comprehended with numerical tools. Of crucial im-portance to the economic viability of these HDR reservoirs is the knowledge of thermal output evolution, fluid excessive pressure and induced thermal ...

Influence of Test Temperature and Test Frequency on Fatigue Life of Aluminum Alloy EN AW‐2618A

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The influence of test temperature and test frequency on the fatigue life of EN AW‐2618A is investigated. High‐cycle fatigue tests are performed at different test temperatures and frequencies on the 1000 h/230°C overaged state. Both test parameters reduce fatigue life due to time‐dependent damage mechanisms.

Enhancing heat and mass transfer in hybrid nanofluid with gyrotactic microbes and local thermal non equlibrium effects using artificial neural network

open access: yesDiscover Nano
This study analyzes the impact of local thermal non-equilibrium on the bioconvection flow of hybrid nanofluid across a slender extending sheet containing gyrotactic bacteria using artificial neural networks trained using a Bayesian regularization ...

Emergent supersymmetry in local equilibrium systems

open access: yesJournal of High Energy Physics, 2018
Many physical processes we observe in nature involve variations of macroscopic quantities over spatial and temporal scales much larger than microscopic molecular collision scales and can be considered as in local thermal equilibrium.

Recycling of NiTi Shape Memory Alloys: Fundamental and Technological Aspects of a Vacuum Induction Melting Processing Route

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The present study investigates recycling of NiTi shape memory alloys via vacuum induction melting. An ingot was synthesized from elemental Ni and Ti and subjected to three subsequent remelting cycles. Remelting increases process durations and impurity levels and adversely affects microstructures and functional properties.
