Localized Surface Plasmon Resonances for Sensing Applicaions

Using a rigorous electromagnetic method based on a curvilinear transformation of the coordinate system, we demonstrate the role of localized surface plasmon resonances on deep two-dimensional metallic gratings in enhancing the sensibility of optical sensing of several nanometer thin layers deposited on the grating surface.

Localized surface plasmon resonance of nanoporous gold

We report the plasmonic properties of free-standing nanoporous gold (NPG) films with an intricate bicontinuous nanostructure. Two characteristic plasmon bands of NPG have been detected in absorption spectra. One at ∼490 nm, resulting from the resonant absorption of gold films, is independent of nanopore sizes and dielectric surroundings.

Nanoparticles with Tunable Localized Surface Plasmon Resonances

This chapter highlights representative research accomplishments in the area of fundamental and applied studies of the tunable LSPR. Specific applications in the Van Duyne laboratory include exploitation of the LSPR as a signal transduction mechanism for sensing applications and optimization of SERS signals.
