Tuning localized plasmons in nanostructured substrates for surface-enhanced Raman scattering [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
Comprehensive reflectivity mapping of the angular dispersion of nanostructured arrays comprising of inverted pyramidal pits is demonstrated. By comparing equivalently structured dielectric and metallic arrays, diffraction and plasmonic features are ...

Single-Photon Tunneling via Localized Surface Plasmons [PDF]

open access: yesPhysical Review Letters, 2002
Strong evidence of a single-photon tunneling effect, a direct analog of single-electron tunneling, has been obtained in the measurements of light tunneling through individual subwavelength pinholes in a gold film covered with a layer of polydiacetylene.

Metal-in-metal localized surface plasmon resonance [PDF]

open access: yesNanotechnology, 2009
Anomalous strong resonances in silver and gold nanoporous thin films which conduct are found to arise from isolated metal nano-islands separated from the surrounding percolating metal network by a thin loop of insulator. This observed resonant optical response is modelled.

Circular‐Polarization‐Sensitive Organic Photodetectors with a Chiral Nanopatterned Electrode Inverse‐Designed by Genetic Algorithm

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A chiral photodetector capable of selectively distinguishing left‐ and right‐handed circularly polarized light is experimentally demonstrated. The device, which features a nanopatterned electrode inverse‐designed by a genetic algorithm within a metal–dielectric–metal nanocavity that incorporates a vacuum‐deposited small‐molecule multilayer, exhibits ...

Left-Handed Surface Waves in a Photonic Structure

open access: yes, 2002
It is demonstrated that an isotropic left-handed medium can be constructed as a photonic structure consisting of two dielectric materials, one with positive and another with negative dielectric permittivities epsilon.

Transverse Anderson localization of surface plasmon polaritons [PDF]

open access: yesOptics Letters, 2017
We investigate the effect of disorder on the propagation of surface plasmon polaritons in arrays of evanescently coupled dielectric loaded surface plasmon polariton waveguides. Diagonal disorder is implemented by randomly varying the heights of the waveguides.

Shaping Ti3C2 MXene Nanospheres for Precision Near‐Infrared Photothermal Therapy

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
In this study, we report producing spherical MXenes via fs laser fragmentation of Ti3C2 flakes in liquid medium. The nanoparticles demonstrated pronounced light absorption and high photothermal conversion efficiencies of 68% and 63% under heating with NIR‐I and NIR‐II lasers, respectively.

Spoof surface plasmon polaritons supported by ultrathin corrugated metal strip and their applications

open access: yesNanotechnology Reviews, 2015
In this review, we present a brief introduction on the spoof surface plasmons supported on corrugated metallic plates with nearly zero thickness. We mainly focus on the propagation characteristics of spoof surface plasmon polaritons (SPPs), excitation of

Klein scattering of spin-1 Dirac-Weyl wave and localized surface plasmon

open access: yesPhysical Review Research, 2021
Localized surface plasmon and Klein tunneling resonances are two phenomena that were previously thought to be unrelated, where the former plays an important role in subwavelength optics while the latter is fundamental to relativistic quantum mechanics ...
