The planar cell polarity protein Vangl2 interacts with the PDZ‐domains of Scribble but not with a unique PDZ‐like domain in Inturned

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Structural and biochemical characterisations show that the planar cell polarity (PCP) protein Inturned harbours a unique PDZ‐like domain that does not bind canonical PDZ‐binding motifs (PBMs) like that of another PCP protein Vangl2. In contrast, the apical‐basal polarity protein Scribble contains four PDZ domains that bind Vangl2, but one PDZ domain ...

Race, tumor location, and disease progression among low‐risk prostate cancer patients

open access: yesCancer Medicine, 2020
Background The relationship between race, prostate tumor location, and BCR‐free survival is inconclusive. This study examined the independent and joint roles of patient race and tumor location on biochemical recurrence‐free (BCR) survival.

Yaari dual theory without the completeness axiom. [PDF]

open access: yes
This note shows how Yaari’s dual theory of choice under risk naturally extends to the case of incomplete preferences. This also provides an axiomatic characterization of a large and widely studied class of stochastic orders used to rank the riskiness of ...

A general purpose programming framework for ubiquitous computing environments [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
It is important to note that the need to support ad-hoc and potentially mobile arrangements of devices in ubiquitous environments does not fit well within the traditional client/server architecture.

Wave-Speed-Independent Traveling Wave Fault Location Method for Flexible DC Transmission Lines

open access: yesEnergies
Accurate fault location in flexible DC transmission lines is essential for ensuring rapid fault clearance and system reliability. However, traditional traveling-wave methods are often affected by wave velocity variations and synchronization errors.

Calpain small subunit homodimerization is robust and calcium‐independent

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Calpains dimerize via penta‐EF‐hand (PEF) domains. Using single‐molecule force spectroscopy, we measured the strength and kinetics of PEF–PEF homodimer binding. The interaction is robust, shows a transient conformational step before dissociation, and remains largely insensitive to Ca2+.

Location- and feature-based selection histories make independent, qualitatively distinct contributions to urgent visuomotor performance

open access: yeseLife
Attention mechanisms guide visuomotor behavior by weighing physical salience and internal goals to prioritize stimuli as choices for action. Although less well studied, selection history, which reflects multiple facets of experience with recent events ...

Structural insights into an engineered feruloyl esterase with improved MHET degrading properties

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
A feruloyl esterase was engineered to mimic key features of MHETase, enhancing the degradation of PET oligomers. Structural and computational analysis reveal how a point mutation stabilizes the active site and reshapes the binding cleft, expading substrate scope.
