Lock-Free Resizeable Concurrent Tries [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
This paper describes an implementation of a non-blocking concurrent hash trie based on single-word compare-and-swap instructions in a shared-memory system. Insert, lookup and remove operations modifying different parts of the hash trie can be run completely independently.

Low‐Cost, Large‐Scale Nanoporous Metals by Mechanical Alloying, Oxide Reduction, and Dealloying of Powders

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Powder metal processing provides scalable advantages in nanoporous (np) metal development. Mechanical alloying is used to produce unique precursors for hybrid nanopore formation by oxide reduction and dealloying. As demonstrated in np Ag, this approach improves process efficiency while promoting smaller ligaments and larger pores, both of which are ...

La modélisation économique mondiale, une technologie de gouvernement à distance ?

open access: yesRevue d'anthropologie des connaissances, 2016
This article questions the role of global economic modeling in the programs of the Green Revolution in Africa: to what extend does this form of quantification work as a technology of government at a distance?

Lock-Free Augmented Trees

open access: yes
Augmenting an existing sequential data structure with extra information to support greater functionality is a widely used technique. For example, search trees are augmented to build sequential data structures like order-statistic trees, interval trees, tango trees, link/cut trees and many others.

What Do Large Language Models Know About Materials?

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
If large language models (LLMs) are to be used inside the material discovery and engineering process, they must be benchmarked for the accurateness of intrinsic material knowledge. The current work introduces 1) a reasoning process through the processing–structure–property–performance chain and 2) a tool for benchmarking knowledge of LLMs concerning ...

Assessing the effectiveness and cost effectiveness of adaptive e-Learning to improve dietary behaviour: protocol for a systematic review

open access: yesBMC Public Health, 2010
Background The composition of habitual diets is associated with adverse or protective effects on aspects of health. Consequently, UK public health policy strongly advocates dietary change for the improvement of population health and emphasises the ...

Recoverable Lock-Free Locks

open access: yes
This paper presents the first transformation that introduces both lock-freedom and recoverability. Our transformation starts with a lock-based implementation, and provides a recoverable, lock-free substitution to lock acquire and lock release operations.

Progress Guarantees When Composing Lock-Free Objects [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Highly concurrent and reliable data objects are vital for parallel programming. Lock-free shared data objects are highly concurrent and guarantee that at least one operation, from a set of concurrently executed operations, finishes after a finite number of steps regardless of the state of the other operations.

A Workflow to Accelerate Microstructure‐Sensitive Fatigue Life Predictions

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study introduces a workflow to accelerate predictions of microstructure‐sensitive fatigue life. Results from frameworks with varying levels of simplification are benchmarked against published reference results. The analysis reveals a trade‐off between accuracy and model complexity, offering researchers a practical guide for selecting the optimal ...

Needle-free vascular access port for hemodialysis: Proof-of-concept validation in an experimental animal study

open access: yesJournal of Vascular Surgery Cases and Innovative Techniques
Vascular access remains a critical challenge in kidney replacement therapy. Although arteriovenous fistulas are the reference standard, they are often compromised by maturation failure, complications, and repeated needling, which causes pain and distress
