Towards Defect Phase Diagrams: From Research Data Management to Automated Workflows

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A research data management infrastructure is presented for the systematic integration of heterogeneous experimental and simulation data required for defect phase diagrams. The approach combines openBIS with a companion application for large‐object storage, automated metadata extraction, provenance tracking and federated data access, thereby supporting ...

The Effects of Finger-Walking in Place (FWIP) on Spatial Knowledge Acquisition in Virtual Environments [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Spatial knowledge, necessary for efficient navigation, comprises route knowledge (memory of landmarks along a route) and survey knowledge (overall representation like a map).

Quantification of the locomotive behavior of polymorphonuclear leukocytes in clot preparations [PDF]

open access: yesBlood, 1982
Time-lapse videotape recordings of polymorphonuclear leukocytes (PMNs) from clot preparations were used to quantify the locomotive behavior of individual PMNs from normal subjects. Tracings derived from the videotapes allow one to quantify multiple parameters of the locomotive behavior of PMNs--direction, distance, rate, and angle of turn.

Multifunctional Crushing and Piezoresistive Self‐Sensing in Conductive Epoxy/CNT‐Coated Polyetherimide TPMS Lattices

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study reports lightweight polyetherimide triply periodic minimal surfaces lattices coated with carbon nanotube‐reinforced epoxy that combine mechanical robustness with self‐sensing. The conformal coating enhances stiffness, strength and energy absorption while enabling reliable strain monitoring.

STUDIES ON THE LOCOMOTION BEHAVIOR OF FISHES-I

open access: yesNIPPON SUISAN GAKKAISHI, 1961
The author considered that the subject of behavior of oceanic surface fishes give clues to settle the problem of locomotion, gathering and scattering of fish school. How do fishes hold their position against movements of water masses and partial water currents?

Phase Field Failure Modeling: Brittle‐Ductile Dual‐Phase Microstructures under Compressive Loading

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The approach by Amor and the approach by Miehe and Zhang for asymmetric damage behavior in the phase field method for fracture are compared regarding their fitness for microcrack‐based failure modeling. The comparison is performed for the case of a dual‐phase microstructure with a brittle and a ductile constituent.

Behavioral decoding of Drosophila locomotion in a circular arena

open access: yes, 2017
Motion detection and position tracking of animal behavior over a period of time produce massive amount of information, but analysis and interpretation of such huge datasets are challenging. Here we describe statistical methods to extract major movement structures of Drosophila locomotion in a ...

Lameness Detection in Dairy Cows: Part 1. How to Distinguish between Non-Lame and Lame Cows Based on Differences in Locomotion or Behavior

open access: yesAnimals, 2015
Due to its detrimental effect on cow welfare, health and production, lameness in dairy cows has received quite a lot of attention in the last few decades—not only in terms of prevention and treatment of lameness but also in terms of detection, as early ...
