Cuticle protein in adult Locusta migratoria
Journal of Insect Physiology, 1981Abstract The total protein, chitin and soluble protein content of the abdominal cuticle of male adult locusts was analysed. After an initial period of increase, cuticular protein and chitin content levelled off with the onset of sexual maturation. After ecdysis, the amount of soluble cuticular protein increased unitil maturation.

The development of a collagenous connective tissue in the locust, Locusta migratoria
Tissue and Cell, 1974The ejaculatory duct of adult male locusts is surrounded by a thick layer of collagenous tissue. It starts to develop during the second instar when a group of cells come to lie adjacent to the basal regions of the epidermal cells which form the duct. From the fourth instar onwards, connective tissue is present between these cells.

Flight orientation of swarming Locusta migratoria
Physiological Entomology, 1984ABSTRACT. High‐speed films of four swarms of Locusta migratoria in Australia and one swarm in New Guinea were analysed. Measurements were made of the locust's body orientation and flight track in the horizontal relative to wind direction, and of height and speed of flight.

Azadirachtin, ecdysteroids and ecdysis in Locusta migratoria
Comparative Biochemistry and Physiology Part C: Comparative Pharmacology, 1986Abstract 1. The injection of azadirachtin into eight-day-old 5th instar nymphs of Locusta migratoria elicits different morphological effects dependent upon the timing of the injection relative to the major haemolymph ecdysteroid peak. 2. Ecdysteroid levels can be drastically reduced, delayed and extended or not significantly affected by ...

The proteases in the gut of the locust, Locusta migratoria
Journal of Insect Physiology, 1974Abstract The intestinal fluid of Locusta migratoria was purified by ionexchange chromatography on a DEAE-cellulose column. Four fractions (PI–PIV) with endopeptidase activity have been obtained and characterized in further studies. All proteolytic fractions were found to react with PMSF. Therefore, they seem to be typical serine proteases.

Isolation and Identification of Neuropeptides in Locusta Migratoria
1990By means of high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) using 4 columns with different separation characteristics, 44 neuropeptides were isolated from the migratory locust, Locusta migratoria, starting from an extract of 9000 brain-corpora cardiaca-corpora allata-suboesophageal ganglion complexes. A heterologous bioassay, based on the motility of the

A first canonical variate analysis (factor analysis) of two geographic strains of L. m. shows that the same axes distinguish crowded from isolated animals as well as their geographical origins. Two other analyses between normal and albino strains of both localities show no differences for one strain; however for the other strain, the pigmentary ...
