The cytoplasmic adaptor protein Caskin mediates Lar signal transduction during Drosophila motor axon guidance [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
The multiprotein complexes that receive and transmit axon pathfinding cues during development are essential to circuit generation. Here, we identify and characterize the Drosophila sterile α-motif (SAM) domain-containing protein Caskin, which shares ...

Endocytic Control of Cell‐Autonomous and Non‐Cell‐Autonomous Functions of p53

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
NUMB Ex3‐containing isoforms localize to the plasma membrane, where they recruit p53 through SNX9 and direct it to multivesicular bodies and exosomes. Exported p53 is taken up by neighboring cells and activates nuclear programs, revealing an intercellular, exosome‐based pathway that might help establish a tumor‐suppressive microenvironment.

An Open‐Source Pipeline for Calcium Imaging and All‐Optical Physiology in Human Stem Cell‐Derived Neurons

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This work introduces an open‐source all‐optical platform for functional phenotyping of human stem cell‐derived neurons. The system integrates optogenetics, calcium imaging, automated acquisition, and analysis to resolve single‐cell and network activity, enabling longitudinal measurements, disease modeling, and pharmacological screening in preclinical ...

Management of lethal recessive alleles in beef cattle through the use of mate selection software

open access: yesGenetics Selection Evolution, 2019
Background Recessive loss-of-function (LOF) alleles at genes which are essential for life, can result in early embryonic mortality. Cattle producers can use the LOF carrier status of individual animals to make selection and mate allocation decisions ...

Composition and abundance of collembola in primary and logged over forest. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
The composition and abundance of collembola among three different forest habitats of the Sungai Lalang Forest Reserve, Selangor Malaysia were compared. The three forest habitats selected were primary forest,5-year old logged over forest(LOF) and 10-year ...

Heterogeneity in Stock Pricing : A STAR Model with Multivariate Transition Functions [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Stock prices often diverge from measures of fundamental value, which simple present value models fail to explain. This paper tries to find causes for these long-run price movements and their persistence by estimating a STAR model for the price-earnings ...

Are subsets necessary in Martin-Lof type theory? [PDF]

open access: yes, 1992
After introducing Martin-Lof's type theory, the paper introduces the rules proposed by various authors for adding subset types to the system, and the justification given for their addition.

A Novel Gain‐of‐Function ITPR1 Variant Associated With a Movement Disorder Characterized by Tremor and Dystonia

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Medical Genetics Part A, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The 1,4,5‐trisphosphate receptor type 1 (ITPR1) gene encodes an endoplasmic reticulum calcium release channel, in which loss‐of‐function mutations have been associated with spinocerebellar ataxias and related neurological phenotypes. Only one gain‐of‐function mutation in the highly conserved suppressor domain of ITPR1 has been previously ...

Impact of PCSK9 loss-of-function genotype on 1-year mortality and recurrent infection in sepsis survivorsResearch in context

open access: yesEBioMedicine, 2018
Background: Reduced activity of proprotein convertase subtilisin/kexin type 9 (PCSK9) has been associated with decreased short-term death in patients with septic shock.

Hand‐onset weakness is a common feature of ALS patients with a NEK1 loss‐of‐function variant

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, 2020
Objective The NEK1 gene has been recently implicated in amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). This study aims to assess the influence of NEK1 variants on the occurrence of ALS and investigate the spectrum and clinical features of NEK1 loss‐of‐function ...
