Crossover of the weighted mean fragment mass scaling in 2D brittle fragmentation
We performed vertical and horizontal sandwich 2D brittle fragmentation experiments. The weighted mean fragment mass was scaled using the multiplicity $\mu$. The scaling exponent crossed over at $\log \mu_c \simeq -1.4$.

New fitting formula for cosmic non-linear density distribution
We have measured the probability distribution function (PDF) of cosmic matter density field from a suite of N-body simulations. We propose the generalized normal distribution of version 2 (Nv2) as an alternative fitting formula to the well-known log ...

Evidence for the Independence of Waged and Unwaged Income, Evidence for Boltzmann Distributions in Waged Income, and the Outlines of a Coherent Theory of Income Distribution [PDF]
Two sets of high quality income data are analysed in detail, one set from the UK, one from the USA. It is firstly demonstrated that both a log-normal distribution and a Boltzmann distribution can give very accurate fits to both these data sets.

A log-Birnbaum-Saunders Regression Model with Asymmetric Errors
The paper by Leiva et al. (2010) introduced a skewed version of the sinh-normal distribution, discussed some of its properties and characterized an extension of the Birnbaum-Saunders distribution associated with this distribution.

This work considers the distribution of inertial particles in turbulence using the point-particle approximation. We demonstrate that the random point process formed by the positions of particles in space is a Poisson point process with log-normal random ...

On the distributional properties of household consumption expenditures. The case of Italy. [PDF]
In this paper we explore the statistical properties of the distributions of consumption expenditures for a large sample of Italian households in the period 1989-2004.

An empirical study of the tails of mutual fund size
The mutual fund industry manages about a quarter of the assets in the U.S. stock market and thus plays an important role in the U.S. economy. The question of how much control is concentrated in the hands of the largest players is best quantitatively ...
