Logarithmic and Archimedean organic crystalline spirals [PDF]
Crystals can be found in many shapes but do not usually grow as spirals. Here we show that applying a non-uniform layer of a polymer blend onto slender centimeter-size organic crystals prestrains the crystals into hybrid dynamic elements with spiral ...

Individual preferences for certain types of spirals and the possible role of creativity [PDF]
This study explores the appeal of different types of spirals, commonly found in nature, architecture, and art. The first experiment investigated aesthetic appreciation of Archimedean, logarithmic, and golden spirals, considering factors such as size and ...

Quantum Information Flow in Microtubule Tryptophan Networks [PDF]
Networks of aromatic amino acid residues within microtubules, particularly those formed by tryptophan, may serve as pathways for optical information flow.

Golden spiral or Fibonacci spiral: Which is more beautiful and why? [PDF]
Spirals, with their widespread presence in both nature and culture, are universally admired. Although there are different types, such as the Archimedean, logarithmic, and golden spirals, they are indiscriminately considered as beautiful.

A Planar Microfluidic Mixer Based on Logarithmic Spirals. [PDF]
A passive, planar micromixer design based on logarithmic spirals is presented. The device was fabricated using polydimethylsiloxane soft photolithography techniques, and mixing performance was characterized via numerical simulation and fluorescent microscopy.

Selectively advantageous instability in biotic and pre-biotic systems and implications for evolution and aging [PDF]
Rules of biology typically involve conservation of resources. For example, common patterns such as hexagons and logarithmic spirals require minimal materials, and scaling laws involve conservation of energy. Here a relationship with the opposite theme is

Special Curves in Engineering. Surfaces Generated by the Logarithmic Spiral
The logarithmic spiral is one of the most known curves with applications in engineering. We consider product of the logarithmic spiral with a real line and tensor product of two logarithmic spirals and investigate their minimality or flatness.

The Logarithmic Spiral Neutron Guide [PDF]
We present a neutron guide which is curved in the shape of a logarithmic spiral. Simulations and calculations for such a spiral guide are presented and the potential use of the guide for a reflectometer is investigated and compared to the conventional circularly curved guide geometry. We concentrate on the specific case of a beamport at the SINQ source.
