Self‐Oscillating Helix Showing Amplified Winding and Unwinding Motions

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
The hydrogel helix exhibits autonomous oscillation synchronized with the Ru(bpy)32+/3+ redox cycle in the Belousov–Zhabotinsky reaction. Periodic winding–unwinding accompanies magnified motion along one direction within the gel phase. ABSTRACT Helical architectures in nature amplify motion via winding–unwinding.

Coherent quantum squeezing due to the phase space noncommutativity

open access: yes, 2015
The effect of phase space general noncommutativity on producing deformed coherent squeezed states is examined. A two-dimensional noncommutative quantum system supported by a deformed mathematical structure similar to that of Hadamard billiards is ...

Mapping of Physiological Signals From Wireless Battery‐Free Implants With Plane‐Wave Ultrasound Imaging

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
Combined approach of electromagnetic (Power) and ultrasound (data harvesting) waves is proposed to address the miniaturized ultrasonic implants. Electromagnetic waves trigger the piezoelectric element to generate the acoustic pulse which is modulated by the variations in the sensor's impedance.

Flexible Dual-Band Ultrathin Frequency Selective Surface With Polarization Independence, Angular Stability, and Bending Insensitivity

open access: yesIEEE Access
This paper introduces a novel ultrathin frequency selective surface (FSS) based on interconnected logarithmic spiral geometries. The structure is fabricated on a flexible polyimide substrate with a thickness of 0.05 mm, a relative permittivity of 4.3 ...

Chronic Hypoxia Disrupts Spermatogenesis Through ASXL2–EZH2–Mediated Microtubule Destabilization

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study reveals the mechanism by which chronic hypoxia impairs spermatogenesis via the ASXL2–EZH2 axis, hindering the transition of spermatids from round to elongated forms. Key findings reveal that under hypoxic conditions, downregulated ASXL2 expression reduces EZH2 binding to the CEP162 promoter, leading to decreased H3K27me3 modification and ...

Curves in Archeology: Computing the Volume of a Greek Vase

open access: yesMetrology
The concept of dynamic symmetry in art and extensive measurements on Greek vases suggest that a vase and its parts can be inscribed into similar rectangles, with all rectangles having the same ratio of lengths of their side.

Nuclear Spirals as Signatures of Supermassive Black Holes

open access: yes, 2004
Recent high resolution images of spiral galaxies show wide varieties of features including nuclear spirals in the central parts. Some of the galaxies show grand-design nuclear spirals.

Cellular Snowballing: Cell Adhesion and Migration Drive the Self‐Assembly of Cell‐Microgel Biohybrid Spheroids

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A new class of biohybrid spheroids is engineered through the self‐assembly of adherent cells and extracellular matrix‐mimetic hydrogel microparticles (microgels). By mimicking a snowballing effect, this approach enables scalable formation of porous, millimeter‐scale spheroids with enhanced cell viability and molecular diffusion.

Heuristically Adaptive Diffusion‐Model Evolutionary Strategy

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Building on the mathematical equivalence between diffusion models and evolutionary algorithms, researchers demonstrate unprecedented control over evolutionary optimization through conditional diffusion. By training diffusion models to associate parameters with specific traits, they can guide evolution toward solutions exhibiting desired behaviors ...

A New View of the Spiral Structure of the Northern Outer Milky Way in Carbon Monoxide

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal Letters
Based on 32,162 molecular clouds from the Milky Way Imaging Scroll Painting project, we obtain new face-on molecular gas maps of the northern outer Galaxy. The total molecular gas surface density map reveals three segments of spirals, extending 16–43 kpc
