Logging while drilling shear sonic logging in very large boreholes
The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 2019As LWD sonic tools have become more advanced, they have become more routine in use and are now commonly used in multiple hole sections, with the results having applications across a wide range of problems in well construction. The acquisition of quadrupole shear measurements in large boreholes and slow formations is highly challenging however, due to ...

Integration of seismic data and while-drilling logs to reduce drilling uncertainty
12th International Congress of the Brazilian Geophysical Society & EXPOGEF, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, 15–18 August 2011, 2011Seismic is used as a primary input in planning and execution of drilling projects. However, it is not always used to its full potential. An earth model consisting of structural information with geological targets, faults, and with relevant formation properties such as pore pressure and fracture gradient guide drilling decisions to help place the well ...

Geometrical optimization of an acoustic logging-while-drilling isolator
International Meeting for Applied Geoscience & EnergyIn this study axial symmetric 2.5D finite difference (FD) modeling is used to optimize the geometry of an acoustic isolator in a 6-3/4” acoustic logging while drilling (LWD) tool. Two distinct designs were evaluated: one featuring outer grooves and another one with grooves located on the inner surface of the tool conduit.

An Experimental Study Of Seismoelectric Signals In Logging While Drilling
2005Acoustic logging while drilling (LWD) may be complicated because of contamination by waves propagating along the drill collar (the tool waves). In this paper we propose a new method for separating tool waves from the true formation acoustic arrivals in borehole acoustic LWD.
