Logical determinism, causal determinism, and free will
In chapter one I argue that determinism is not fatalistic. This implies that free will is compatible with determinism.Chapter two begins with what I believe is a sound argument for logical determinism, after which I argue that Arthur Prior is ...

In Situ Contact Angle Measurement for Autonomous Spin Coating in Self‐Driving Labs
A vision‐based add‐on transforms commercial spin coaters into autonomous modules of Self‐Driving Labs. Combining a width‐scaled U‐Net with classical geometric analysis, the system simultaneously measures contact angles and estimates substrate pose using a single camera.

Les Caves du Vatican, ou la sotie de l'acte gratuit [PDF]
During his time in North Africa, André Gide fell gravely ill. It was this very illness, this existential experience that would liberate him from determinism. We probably owe the origin of the soties to this experience.

Analytical Characterization of End-to-End Communication Delays With Logical Execution Time
Modern automotive embedded systems are composed of multiple real-time tasks communicating by means of shared variables. The effect of an initial event is typically propagated to an actuation signal through sequences of tasks writing/reading shared ...

Two arguments due to Russell are examined, and found to show that the notion of causation as full determination doesn’t mesh easily with deterministic global physics and the distinction between effective and ineffective strategies.

Randomness is Unpredictability [PDF]
The concept of randomness has been unjustly neglected in recent philosophical literature, and when philosophers have thought about it, they have usually acquiesced in views about the concept that are fundamentally flawed.

Modular Electronic Microrobots With Onboard Sensor‐Program‐Steered Locomotion
Modular electronic smartlet microrobots integrate ambient‐light energy harvesting, photodetection, programmable CMOS control, and bubble‐based actuation within a sub‐millimeter fold‐up architecture. A 58‐bit on‐board CMOS chiplet enables sensor–program steered switching between independently addressable actuators, achieving closed‐loop 2D navigation in

Determinism is the thesis that the past determines the future, but efforts to define it precisely have exposed deep methodological disagreements. Standard possible-worlds formulations of determinism presuppose an "agreement" relation between worlds, but ...
