Development of Artificial Intelligence for Quantitative Assessment of Nasal Inflammatory Cytology in Chronic Rhinitis by Whole‐Slide Images

open access: yesInternational Forum of Allergy &Rhinology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Chronic rhinitis (CR) is currently recognized as a syndrome that manifests in different phenotypes. We aimed to establish an artificial intelligence system (quantitative assessment of nasal inflammatory cytology, QANIC) on the basis of whole‐slide images (WSIs) to enable quantitative assessment of nasal inflammatory cells.

Cutting Through the Green: A Case for Grassland Archaeology Using UAV Multispectral Data

open access: yesArchaeological Prospection, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Advances in low‐altitude remote sensing are needed to improve the effectiveness of archaeological prospection in the Netherlands. The geomorphological situation and land use history make applying various remote sensing and geophysical technologies particularly challenging.

Characteristics of decomposition and nutrient release of green manure returning to kiwifruit orchards in southern Shaanxi province [PDF]

open access: yesGuoshu xuebao
[Objective] Green manure is a clean biological organic fertilizer source. Reasonable planting and utilization of green manures between rows in kiwifruit orchards is an important technical measure to solve the problems of shortage of organic fertilizer ...

Impacts of tillage on soil properties and interactions with drainage when reseeding permanent pasture

open access: yesGrassland Research, EarlyView.
Effect of three‐way interaction between soil tillage, drainage and depths on soil properties in reseeded pastures. Abstract Background Grassland reseeding typically requires intensive tillage. This disrupts soil nutrient dynamics, especially under varying drainage conditions. Methods This study evaluated the combined effects of tillage legacy, drainage

Playground tree diversity: A driver of well‐being in preschool children

open access: yesPeople and Nature, EarlyView.
Abstract Urban greenspaces benefit mental health in adults, with increasing evidence that biodiversity might also play a role. However, we know very little about the impact of urban biodiversity on preschool children's well‐being, despite the critical importance of the formative years.

Differential Resistance Mechanisms to Glyphosate Result in Fitness Cost for Lolium perenne and L. multiflorum

open access: yesFrontiers in Plant Science, 2017
Multiple mechanisms of resistance to glyphosate are exhibited by populations of Lolium spp. worldwide. Association of resistance with growth and reproductive fitness is an important predictor for long-term success of glyphosate-resistant (R) versus ...

Uptake of glycine by non‐mycorrhizal Lolium perenne [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Experimental Botany, 2001
Plants of Lolium perenne were grown in sterile solution culture. 15N-labelled glycine (Gly) coupled with gas chromatograph mass spectrometry was used to prove that non-mycorrhizal plants of L. perenne are capable of acquiring N in the form of intact Gly.

Could large‐scale silicon supplementation of crop‐lands mitigate the impacts of climate change?

open access: yesPLANTS, PEOPLE, PLANET, EarlyView.
Intervention strategies that involve supplementing crop‐lands with silicon have significant scope for carbon capture and drought mitigation, offering wide‐ranging societal impacts. These include contributing to decarbonisation goals, enhancing food security, providing economic benefits and reducing environmental damage associated with intensive ...

Simulated elephant foraging alters tree root exudation rates: Species‐specific responses and implications for belowground carbon dynamics in tropical forests

open access: yesPLANTS, PEOPLE, PLANET, EarlyView.
Asian elephants play crucial roles in ecosystem functioning, and their interactions with plants influence above‐ and belowground carbon cycling. We tested whether their mechanically destructive foraging triggers short‐term, stress‐induced shifts in tree root exudation, an underappreciated pathway linking herbivory to belowground carbon processes.
