Arbuscular mycorrhizal fungus reshapes the rhizosphere microbiome of alfalfa in response to above‐ground attack by aphids and a fungal plant pathogen

open access: yesFunctional Ecology, EarlyView.
Read the free Plain Language Summary for this article on the Journal blog. Abstract Plants assemble beneficial rhizosphere microbiomes through a ‘cry for help’ mechanism upon pathogen or insect herbivore attack. The arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF) can influence the composition of microbial communities in the plant rhizosphere. However, their impacts

Ocena przydatności wybranych odmian Lolium perenne L. do mieszanek pastwiskowych na gleby torfowo-murszowe

open access: yesAgronomy Science, 2013
Celem pracy jest ocena przydatności wybranych odmian Lolium perenne do mieszanek pastwiskowych na gleby torfowo-murszowe. Badania przeprowadzono w latach 1997–2008 na kompleksie siedliska pobagiennego (gleba torfowo-murszowa Mt II) w Sosnowicy w dolinie ...

Plant functional trait responses to cope with drought in seven cool-season grasses

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2023
In semi-arid and arid regions, the selection of suitable grass species with high-yield production, tolerance to drought stress, and potential for recovery from drought is of special importance.

Is the endophyte‐based plant protection against aphids mediated by changes in the insect microbiome?

open access: yesInsect Science, EarlyView.
We showed that the fungal endophyte Epichloë strain AR37 increased the plant resistance against aphids via the production of indole diterpene alkaloids. The reduction in aphid performance was not associated with changes in abundance/composition/diversity of the insect's bacterial microbiota, but additional endophyte effects on this microbiota cannot be

The Exceptional Flare of Mrk 501 in 2014: Combined Observations with H.E.S.S. and FACT [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
The BL Lac type object Mrk 501 was observed at very high energies (E > 100 GeV) in 2014 with the upgraded H.E.S.S. (High Energy Stereoscopic System) phase 2 array. The data collected with the central 28m telescope allow for a broader energy range extending to lower energies when compared to the one obtained with the four small telescopes alone.

The supernova remnant W49B as seen with H.E.S.S. and Fermi-LAT [PDF]

open access: yesA&A 612, A5 (2018), 2016
The supernova remnant (SNR) W49B originated from a core-collapse supernova that occurred between one and four thousand years ago, and subsequently evolved into a mixed-morphology remnant, which is interacting with molecular clouds (MC). $\gamma$-ray observations of SNR/MC associations are a powerful tool to constrain the origin of Galactic cosmic-rays,

Lolium perenne as a biomonitor of atmospheric levels of fluoride

open access: yesEnvironment International, 2007
The aim of the present study was to develop a standardised protocol for the use of Lolium perenne cultures to biomonitor the surroundings of an aluminium smelter. Five ecological stations, which corresponded to air quality network monitoring sites pertaining to the smelter, were selected for study. Cultures of L. perenne (one at each site) were exposed
