Water-Soluble Carbohydrate Recovery in Pastures of Perennial Ryegrass (Lolium perenne L.) and Pasture Brome (Bromus valdivianus Phil.) Under Two Defoliation Frequencies Determined by Thermal Time

open access: yesAgriculture, 2020
The objectives of the experiment were to (i) examine the dynamics of WSC use and the recovery of leaf sheaths and blades of Bromus valdivianus Phil. and Lolium perenne L. subjected to two defoliation frequencies (DFs) determined by thermal time (TT); (ii)

Discovery of new PSII inhibitors: systematic investigation for herbicidal activity screening, properties, and mode of action

open access: yesPest Management Science, EarlyView.
Two nonselective contact photosystem II inhibitors were discovered and investigated through various biological evaluations, including Spirodela polyrhiza and whole‐plant bioassays, and studies on their mobility and mode of action. Abstract BACKGROUND The research focused on developing effective photosystem II (PSII) inhibiting triazine‐derived ...

How does Epichloë festucae avoid the host defence response? : a thesis presented in partial fulfilment of the requirements for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy in Genetics at Massey University, Palmerston North, New Zealand [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Epichloë festucae is a filamentous fungus, which forms symbiotic associations with aerial tissues of Lolium and Festuca grass species. Chitin, a polymer of N-acetyl-Dglucosamine, is an important component of the fungal cell wall and a well-known ...

Effect of daily movement of dairy cattle to fresh grass in morning or afternoon on intake, grazing behaviour, rumen fermentation and milk production [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Twenty Holstein cows were split into two equal groups to test the effect of daily move to a previously ungrazed strip after morning milking (MA) or afternoon milking (AA) on herbage intake, grazing behaviour, rumen characteristics and milk production ...

Ocena przydatności wybranych odmian Lolium perenne L. do mieszanek pastwiskowych na gleby torfowo-murszowe

open access: yesAgronomy Science, 2013
Celem pracy jest ocena przydatności wybranych odmian Lolium perenne do mieszanek pastwiskowych na gleby torfowo-murszowe. Badania przeprowadzono w latach 1997–2008 na kompleksie siedliska pobagiennego (gleba torfowo-murszowa Mt II) w Sosnowicy w dolinie ...

Genetic diversity and structure of Lolium perenne ssp. multiflorum in California vineyards and orchards indicate potential for spread of herbicide resistance via gene flow

open access: yesEvolutionary Applications, 2017
Management of agroecosystems with herbicides imposes strong selection pressures on weedy plants leading to the evolution of resistance against those herbicides. Resistance to glyphosate in populations of Lolium perenne L. ssp. multiflorum is increasingly

Forage grasses with lower uptake of caesium and strontium could provide 'safer' crops for radiologically contaminated areas. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2017
Substitution of a species or cultivar with higher uptake of an element by one with lower uptake has been proposed as a remediation strategy following accidental releases of radioactivity.

Limitations of Photosynthesis in Lolium perenne after Chilling [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of the American Society for Horticultural Science, 1990
Photosynthesis was reduced by 85% to 90% in perennial ryegrass (Lolium perenne L. cv. Derby) following a one-day chilling exposure at 8C day (450 μmol·s-1·m-2 PPF) and 5C night. Seven days of recovery at 22/17C day/night were required for full recovery of photosynthesis.
