The stability criteria affecting the formation of high‐entropy alloys, particularly focusing in supersaturated solid solutions produced by mechanical alloying, are analyzed. Criteria based on Hume–Rothery rules are distinguished from those derived from thermodynamic relations. The formers are generally applicable to mechanically alloyed samples.

Estimation of the stratified dispersal rate [PDF]
The establishment and spread of invading organisms have dramatic consequences for ecosystems. Many organisms expand their range by being transferred passively over short and long distances simultaneously, thus resulting in a stratified dispersal process.

Life path analysis: scaling indicates priming effects of social and habitat factors on dispersal distances [PDF]
1. Movements of many animals along a life-path can be separated into repetitive ones within home ranges and transitions between home ranges. We sought relationships of social and environmental factors with initiation and distance of transition movements

Geographic isolation reduces genetic diversity of a wide‐ranging terrestrial vertebrate, Canis lupus
Genetic diversity is theorized to decrease in populations closer to a species' range edge, where habitat may be suboptimal. Generalist species capable of long‐range dispersal may maintain sufficient gene flow to counteract this, though the presence of ...

This study investigates laser shock peening for enhancing fatigue performance of riveted aerospace aluminum joints. A comparative approach with cold expansion combines fatigue testing and synchrotron X‐ray methods. Integrating mechanical testing with residual stress and strain characterization provides insights into how different treatments affect the ...

Deconstructing isolation-by-distance: The genomic consequences of limited dispersal.
Geographically limited dispersal can shape genetic population structure and result in a correlation between genetic and geographic distance, commonly called isolation-by-distance.

A rare 300 kilometer dispersal by an adult male white‐tailed deer
Despite the key roles that dispersal plays in individual animal fitness and meta‐population gene flow, it remains one of the least understood behaviors in many species.

Seed Dispersal of an Invasive Shrub, Amur Honeysuckle (Lonicera maackii ), by White-tailed Deer in a Fragmented Agricultural-forest Matrix [PDF]
Ungulates are potentially important seed dispersers for many invasive plant species. While our understanding of which invasive plant species are dispersed by ungulates has improved over the last decade, the factors influencing this process remain poorly ...

Freeze‐drying of layered silicate is the key to get coatings with superior gas barrier. Freeze‐drying of layered silicates modified with dodecylamine (DDA) is a highly effective technique for the preparation of barrier pigments that significantly mitigate the permeation of oxygen, water vapor, and hydrogen through polymer films containing these ...
