Efficacy of ICON® Maxx in the laboratory and against insecticide-resistant Anopheles gambiae in central Côte d'Ivoire

open access: yesMalaria Journal, 2012
Background Long-lasting treatment kits, designed to transform untreated nets into long-lasting insecticidal nets (LLINs), may facilitate high coverage with LLINs where non-treated nets are in place.

From knowledge to action: the importance of characterizing herbicide resistance mechanisms for implementing management strategies

open access: yesPest Management Science, EarlyView.
This review bridges the gap between understanding resistance mechanisms and applying them in weed management, highlighting how mechanistic insights reveal vulnerabilities that can guide more effective control strategies. Abstract Herbicide resistance remains one of the most intensively studied areas in weed science because of its direct consequences ...

Indoor Use of Plastic Sheeting Impregnated with Carbamate Combined with Long-Lasting Insecticidal Mosquito Nets for the Control of Pyrethroid-Resistant Malaria Vectors [PDF]

open access: yesThe American Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene, 2010
The combined efficacy of a long-lasting insecticidal net (LLIN) and a carbamate-treated plastic sheeting (CTPS) or indoor residual spraying (IRS) for control of insecticide-resistant mosquitoes was evaluated in experimental huts in Burkina Faso. Anopheles gambiae from the area is resistant to pyrethroids and to a lesser extent, carbamates.

Mathematical Evaluation of Community Level Impact of Combining Bed Nets and Indoor Residual Spraying upon Malaria Transmission in Areas where the main Vectors are Anopheles Arabiensis Mosquitoes. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Indoor residual insecticide spraying (IRS) and long-lasting insecticide treated nets (LLINs) are commonly used together even though evidence that such combinations confer greater protection against malaria than either method alone is inconsistent.

Reduced fitness cost accounts for the stability of a malathion‐resistant heterogeneous duplication haplotype in Ceratitis capitata field populations

open access: yesPest Management Science, EarlyView.
Malathion resistance in Spanish field populations of Ceratitis capitata is associated with a point mutation (R allele) and a heterogeneous duplication (RS haplotype) of the Ccace2 gene. The R allele imposes a higher fitness cost than the RS haplotype under laboratory and field conditions. An evolutionary model supports the stability of the RS haplotype

Repeated mass distributions and continuous distribution of long-lasting insecticidal nets: modelling sustainability of health benefits from mosquito nets, depending on case management [PDF]

open access: yesMalaria Journal, 2013
Stagnating funds for malaria control have spurred interest in the question of how to sustain the gains of recent successes with long-lasting insecticidal nets (LLINs) and improved case management (CM). This simulation study examined the malaria transmission and disease dynamics in scenarios with sustained LLINs and CM interventions and tried to ...

Automatic insect identification, counting, and monitoring techniques: a review

open access: yesPest Management Science, EarlyView.
Automated insect monitoring increasingly integrates optical, acoustic, infrared, radar, electrostatic, and biosensing technologies with artificial intelligence. No single approach is universally optimal; reliable deployment depends on task‐specific validation, representative datasets, robustness under field conditions, energy autonomy, connectivity ...

Design, Implementation and Evaluation of a National Campaign to Deliver 18 Million Free Long-Lasting Insecticidal Nets to Uncovered Sleeping Spaces in Tanzania. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Since 2004, the Tanzanian National Voucher Scheme has increased availability and accessibility of insecticide-treated nets (ITNs) to pregnant women and infants by subsidizing the cost of nets purchased.

Long‐term impact of exposure to Royal Guard, a pyriproxyfen‐based bed net, on pyrethroid‐resistant malaria vectors from Cameroon using DNA‐based metabolic resistance markers

open access: yesPest Management Science, Volume 81, Issue 4, Page 2165-2180, April 2025.
We used recently detected P450 DNA‐based markers of pyrethroid resistance in both Anopheles funestus and Anopheles gambiae to demonstrate that although pyrethroid‐resistant mosquitoes have higher ability to survive and live longer after exposure to Royal Guard, this net significantly affects their lifespan, blood feeding ability and interestingly ...

Comparison of the laboratory standard washing using CIPAC washing agent and the domestic washing on three recommended types of long-lasting insecticidal mosquito nets. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS One, 2013
One of the best ways to prevent malaria is the use of insecticide-treated bed nets. Manufacturers pursue easier, safer and more efficient nets. Hence, many studies on the efficacy and wash resistance using World Health Organization standards have been reported.
