Effects of Asaia spp. on the development, size and associated microbiomes of two mosquito species of medical importance

open access: yesMedical and Veterinary Entomology, EarlyView.
Addition of Asaia species to the rearing water of mosquito larvae can affect the structure of the larval microbiome, although these bacteria do not persist to the pupal stage. Asaia inoculation can increase the adult size of males of two mosquito species. The impact of Asaia inoculation on development rate and female size depended on bacterial and host

Low long-lasting insecticide nets (LLINs) use among household members for protection against mosquito bite in kersa, Eastern Ethiopia [PDF]

open access: yesBMC Public Health, 2012
In Ethiopia, despite the increasing availability of long-lasting insecticide treated nets (LLINs), the LLINs use among LLINs owning households has not been satisfactory. Identifying the circumstances and the associated factors is necessary to achieve the Millennium Development Goal targets.

Multi-country field trials comparing wash-resistance of PermaNet and conventional insecticide-treated nets against anopheline and culicine mosquitoes.

open access: yes, 2005
Insecticide-treated bednets (ITNs) are commonly used as a means of personal protection from malaria transmission by anopheline mosquitoes (Diptera: Culicidae).

Combining synthetic human odours and low-cost electrocuting grids to attract and kill outdoor-biting mosquitoes : field and semi-field evaluation of an improved mosquito landing box [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
On-going malaria transmission is increasingly mediated by outdoor-biting vectors, especially where indoor insecticidal interventions such as long-lasting insecticide treated nets (LLINs) are widespread.

Tests of Olyset nets by bioassay and in experimental huts [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Vector Borne Diseases, 2006
Background: Olyset nets are a type of long-lasting insecticidal net made of polyethylene fibre withpermethrin incorporated into it and with a 4 mm mesh size.Bioassays: Olyset netting was wrapped around a wire frame and the mosquitoes were released ...

Relationships between meteorological factors and mosquito vector density in an Urban District of Shanghai, China (2018–2024)

open access: yesMedical and Veterinary Entomology, EarlyView.
The effect of temperature on oviposition activity is not uniform across time. Heat stress exerts delayed population‐level impacts. Moderate temperatures favour population development while both low and high temperatures impose constraints. The delayed negative effect of warm temperatures, peaking at 2–3 weeks rather than immediately.

Addressing Behavioural Determinants of Cutaneous Leishmaniasis Through Community Dialogue in Kalu District, Ethiopia: A Mixed‐Methods Study

open access: yesTropical Medicine &International Health, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Cutaneous leishmaniasis (CL) is a major public health challenge in Ethiopia, with 20–30,000 new cases annually. Limited awareness and misconceptions contribute to delayed care seeking, stigma, prolonged healing, and reduced uptake of preventive measures in CL‐endemic communities.

Implications of Bio-Efficacy and Persistence of Insecticides when Indoor Residual Spraying and Longlasting Insecticide Nets are Combined for Malaria Prevention [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Bio-efficacy and residual activity of insecticides used for indoor residual spraying (IRS) and long-lasting insecticide nets (LLINs) were assessed against laboratory-reared and wild populations of the malaria vector, Anopheles arabiensis in south eastern

The Comparative Effectiveness of Vector Control Approaches for Dengue: A Systematic Review and Multilevel Network Meta‐Analysis

open access: yesTropical Medicine &International Health, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Dengue vector control plays an important role in reducing the burden of dengue infection. Conventional meta‐analysis can only include interventions that can be directly compared. Hence, this study aimed to compare the effectiveness of all interventions for dengue vector control directly and indirectly through a multilevel Bayesian ...

Comparative Field Evaluation of Combinations of Long-Lasting Insecticide Treated Nets and Indoor Residual Spraying, Relative to Either Method Alone, for Malaria Prevention in an Area where the main Vector is Anopheles Arabiensis. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Long-lasting insecticidal nets (LLINs) and indoor residual spraying (IRS) are commonly used together in the same households to improve malaria control despite inconsistent evidence on whether such combinations actually offer better protection than nets ...
