Optical fiber long-period grating sensors

Optics Letters, 1996
We present a novel class of highly sensitive sensors based on long-period fiber gratings that can be implemented with simple and inexpensive demodulation schemes. Temperature, strain, and refractive-index resolutions of 0.65 degrees C, 65.75 micro, and 7.69 x 10(-5), respectively, are demonstrated for gratings fabricated in standard telecommunication ...

Long-period fiber grating by electrical discharge

24th European Conference on Optical Communication. ECOC '98 (IEEE Cat. No.98TH8398), 2002
Long-period gratings were manufactured by applying step by step an electric discharge through a standard telecommunication fibre. The induced perturbation was so large that less than 20 steps are necessary to obtain a coupling length.

Long-period fiber grating sensors

Optical Fiber Communications, OFC., 2005
Summary form only given. We propose novel long-period grating-based optical fiber sensors that possess high sensitivities and simple demodulation schemes, and can be easily configured for multiparameter measurements.

Tunable long-period fiber grating

SPIE Proceedings, 2003
Long-period fiber grating (LPFG) having grating periodicity in the hundreds of microns, functions as a band rejection filter. This device is useful for gain equalizing applications of fiber amplifiers. The transmission characteristics are mainly determined by the initial fabricating conditions such as grating periodicity and UV exposure time. Therefore,

Ultra-long-period fiber gratings

Proceedings 27th European Conference on Optical Communication (Cat. No.01TH8551), 2002
We report here for the first time the fabrication and characterisation of long period fiber gratings with periods of several millimetres. The resonant loss peaks of these gratings are generated from the coupling of the forward propagating guided core mode to the cladding modes of fundamental and harmonic orders.
