Dispersion control with use of long-period fiber gratings
Journal of the Optical Society of America A, 2000Chirped long-period fiber gratings are analyzed for management of dispersion in optical fiber communications systems. A ray model is used to derive simple analytic expressions that describe the transmission, chromatic delay, and dispersion properties of chirped long-period fiber gratings. A numerical model based on coupled-mode theory is used to verify

Progress in long period fiber gratings
Conference Proceedings. LEOS'98. 11th Annual Meeting. IEEE Lasers and Electro-Optics Society 1998 Annual Meeting (Cat. No.98CH36243), 2002Summary form only given. Long period fiber gratings have been used in a variety of applications such as gain equalization filters for optical amplifiers, band rejection filters and sensors for temperature and strain. Among these applications, gain equalization is the most demanding and interesting because of the impact of broadband gain-flattened EDFA ...

Femtosecond-written long-period gratings in fluoride fibers
Optics Letters, 2018Long-period gratings induced in fluoride glass fibers using femtosecond laser pulses at 800 nm are, to the best of our knowledge, demonstrated for the first time. By means of tightly confined ultrashort laser pulses, smooth periodic lines of refractive index changes are induced along the fiber core.

Structural long-period gratings in photonic crystal fibers
Optics Letters, 2002We report what is believed to be the first example of structural long-period gratings written in pure silica photonic crystal fibers (PCFs). The gratings are realized by periodic collapse of the holes of the PCF by heat treatment with a CO(2) laser. The resulting periodic hole-size perturbation produces core-to-cladding-mode conversion.

3D printed long period gratings for optical fibers
Optics Letters, 2016We demonstrate a simple technique for implementing long period grating (LPG) structures by the use of a 3D printer. This Letter shows a way of manipulating the mode coupling within an optical fiber by applying stress through an external 3D printed periodic structure.

Long-period fiber gratings written in the microstructure specialty fibers
2013 6th IEEE/International Conference on Advanced Infocomm Technology (ICAIT), 2013We demonstrate the fabrication of long-period fiber gratings (LPFGs) written by CO2 laser in different micro-structure specialty fibers. The characteristics of grating growth were studied by using the dynamic analysis of laser writing process. It can be believed that the residual stress relaxation, glass structure changes, and frozen of the non ...

Long-period fiber grating inscribed in a tapered fiber
Advanced Photonics Congress, 2012A long-period fiber grating (LPFG) written in a tapered fiber was proposed and experimentally demonstrated. Strain sensitivity of the proposed LPFG based on a tapered fiber was improved to be -2.99 nm/mϵ.

Long-period fiber grating: a specific design for biosensing applications
Applied Optics, 2017In this paper, a detailed investigation on the modeling of long-period fiber grating (LPFG) sensors is discussed with the aim of providing a more realistic solution for their use in biosensing. Add-layer sensitivity, i.e., sensitivity of the sensor to an additional layer adhered onto the fiber surface, is quantified and a clear and complete analysis ...

Flexible fabrication of long-period in-fiber gratings
Technical Digest. Summaries of Papers Presented at the Conference on Lasers and Electro-Optics. Conference Edition. 1998 Technical Digest Series, Vol.6 (IEEE Cat. No.98CH36178), 1998We have demonstrated a novel, simple, low-cost and all-fiber interrogation technique for a strain/temperature fiber Bragg sensor using a long-period grating. We show the schematic diagram of the demodulation scheme. The amount of light transmitted by the long-period grating is determined by its wavelength and is therefore proportional to the wavelength
