Flexible fabrication of long-period in-fiber gratings

We have demonstrated a novel, simple, low-cost and all-fiber interrogation technique for a strain/temperature fiber Bragg sensor using a long-period grating. We show the schematic diagram of the demodulation scheme. The amount of light transmitted by the long-period grating is determined by its wavelength and is therefore proportional to the wavelength

Long-Period Fiber Gratings and their Sensing Applications

Long-period gratings (LPGs) in optical fibers for sensing are discussed, especially on strain and temperature sensing. Low-cost fabrication by a low-pressure mercury-lamp exposure was described. LPGs in high-birefringence fiber had high strain sensitivity.

Hermetic sealing of long period fiber gratings

A method of writing long period grating and a model to explain light coupling between fundamental mode and cladding mode are presented. One athermal hermetic sealing approach is proposed to form hermetic sealing long period fiber grating. A long period fiber grating was designed and written for this experiment.

Step-changed long-period fiber gratings
