Long-period fiber grating inscribed in a tapered fiber

Advanced Photonics Congress, 2012
A long-period fiber grating (LPFG) written in a tapered fiber was proposed and experimentally demonstrated. Strain sensitivity of the proposed LPFG based on a tapered fiber was improved to be -2.99 nm/mϵ.

Long-period fiber grating: a specific design for biosensing applications

Applied Optics, 2017
In this paper, a detailed investigation on the modeling of long-period fiber grating (LPFG) sensors is discussed with the aim of providing a more realistic solution for their use in biosensing. Add-layer sensitivity, i.e., sensitivity of the sensor to an additional layer adhered onto the fiber surface, is quantified and a clear and complete analysis ...

Flexible fabrication of long-period in-fiber gratings

Technical Digest. Summaries of Papers Presented at the Conference on Lasers and Electro-Optics. Conference Edition. 1998 Technical Digest Series, Vol.6 (IEEE Cat. No.98CH36178), 1998
We have demonstrated a novel, simple, low-cost and all-fiber interrogation technique for a strain/temperature fiber Bragg sensor using a long-period grating. We show the schematic diagram of the demodulation scheme. The amount of light transmitted by the long-period grating is determined by its wavelength and is therefore proportional to the wavelength

Splicer-based long-period fiber gratings

OFC '98. Optical Fiber Communication Conference and Exhibit. Technical Digest. Conference Edition. 1998 OSA Technical Digest Series Vol.2 (IEEE Cat. No.98CH36177), 2002
Summary form only given. Presents a one-step process for the fabrication of efficient, compact long-period gratings. The technique makes use ofa controlled arc to periodically modify an optical fiber by a pair of electrodes. The setup comprises a commercially available splicer whose fiber holding mechanism is replaced by a motorized stage, which allows

Long-Period Fiber Gratings and their Sensing Applications

International Conference on Fibre Optics and Photonics, 2012
Long-period gratings (LPGs) in optical fibers for sensing are discussed, especially on strain and temperature sensing. Low-cost fabrication by a low-pressure mercury-lamp exposure was described. LPGs in high-birefringence fiber had high strain sensitivity.

Hermetic sealing of long period fiber gratings

Proceedings of SPIE, 2006
A method of writing long period grating and a model to explain light coupling between fundamental mode and cladding mode are presented. One athermal hermetic sealing approach is proposed to form hermetic sealing long period fiber grating. A long period fiber grating was designed and written for this experiment.

Wavelength tunable long-period fiber grating

Fifth Asia-Pacific Conference on ... and Fourth Optoelectronics and Communications Conference on Communications,, 1999
Wavelength tunable long-period fiber gratings in specially designed optical fibers, which have temperature sensitivity of /spl plusmn/15 nm/100/spl deg/C, have been developed. The temperature sensitivity was three times greater than that in dispersion shifted fiber.

Step-changed long-period fiber gratings

IEEE Photonics Technology Letters, 2002
The spectral characteristics of a new type of long-period grating (LPG) structure, step-changed LPG, are investigated theoretically and experimentally. It is shown that the spectral profile of such gratings can be tailored by adjusting the step parameters. A good agreement between simulated results and measured spectra is obtained. This type of LPG has

A study on dispersion of long-period fiber gratings

Technical Digest. CLEO/Pacific Rim '99. Pacific Rim Conference on Lasers and Electro-Optics (Cat. No.99TH8464), 2003
Long-period fiber gratings (LPFG) have recently emerged as a candidate for a number of applications, including those related to wavelength-division-multiplexing (WDM) fiber-optic communication. Although some papers have presented analytical treatment of LPFG structures in the past, there has been no report thus far on theoretical calculation of the ...

Dipole effect in long-period fiber grating

Bragg Gratings, Photosensitivity, and Poling in Glass Waveguides, 2001
An effect of dipole by the UV-induced birefringence was analyzed using a long-period fiber grating. It was approximately 5.6% in UV-induced refractive index change due to the photosensitivity of Ge-related glass defects in our experiment.
