Long-period waveguide gratings

Proceedings of the Sixth Chinese Optoelectronics Symposium (IEEE Cat. No.03EX701), 2004
Long period waveguide gratings (LPWG) based on a low-loss negative tone epoxy Novolak resin polymer have been fabricated on SiO/sub 2//Si substrate using standard cleanroom processes: UV photolithography and reactive ion etching. A maximum attenuation of -18 dB and a minimum 3 dB bandwidth of 6 nm were measured, and the grating length is as short as 1 ...

Long-period grating fabrication techniques

SPIE Proceedings, 2000
Electric discharge and CO2 laser exposure can produce long period gratings in standard telecommunication fibers. These two fabrication techniques are examined and compared to the UV laser exposure technique. Cladding modes involved in these gratings have been measured and identified using a computer simulation based on coupled mode equations ...

Reliability of long-period gratings

OFC '98. Optical Fiber Communication Conference and Exhibit. Technical Digest. Conference Edition. 1998 OSA Technical Digest Series Vol.2 (IEEE Cat. No.98CH36177), 2002
Summary form only given. Ever since their conception in 1996, long-period gratings (LPGs) have come to be used in a wide variety of applications. LPGs involve coupling of core and cladding modes. The importance of thermal stabilization techniques for successful use of Bragg gratings is now well acknowledged. This is even more important in LPGs, because

Cascaded long-period gratings with nanostructured coatings

Optics Letters, 2005
The response of the transmission spectrum of cascaded long period gratings (LPGs) to the deposition of nanostructured coatings by use of the Langmuir-Blodgett technique is investigated. The phase of the interference fringes within the LPGs' attenuation bands is shown to be highly sensitive to the optical thickness of the coating, for thicknesses of the

Long-period gratings in wavelength-scale microfibers

Optics Letters, 2009
We report the fabrication of long-period gratings (LPGs) in wavelength-scale microfibers with diameters from 1.5 to 3 microm. The LPGs were fabricated by use of a femtosecond IR laser to periodically modify the surface of the fibers. These LPGs have grating periods of a few tens of micrometers, much smaller than those in conventional optical fibers.
