Long Term Prediction of Traffic Flow

IFAC Proceedings Volumes, 1987
Abstract Prediction of traffic flow is now becoming a basic problem in designing variable information boards or route guidance (route telling) systems in road networks. Although, time series analysis is widely applied to this problem, it is known that the error of prediction increases rapidly as the prediction lead time increases and it is difficult ...

Towards long-term prediction

Physica D: Nonlinear Phenomena, 2000
This paper describes a simple method of obtaining longer-term predictions from a nonlinear time-series under the assumption that a reasonably good short-term predictor is known. The usefulness of the technique is that it eliminates, to some extent, the systematic errors of the iterated short-term predictor.

Long-Term Morphological Prediction

2001
Long-term morphological changes of alluvial rivers, estuaries, coasts and shelf seas are often difficult to predict, not only because part of the external forcing (e.g. the weather) is only predictable in a statistical sense, but also because the non-linearity of the morphodynamic processes may give rise to inherent predictability limits, which are ...

Predicting the long-term robustness of visual features

2015 International Conference on Advanced Robotics (ICAR), 2015
Many vision based localization methods extract local visual features to build a sparse map of the environment and estimate the position of the camera from feature correspondences. However, the majority of features is typically only detectable for short time-frames so that most information in the map becomes obsolete over longer periods of time.

Nonlinear long-term prediction of speech signals

1997 IEEE International Conference on Acoustics, Speech, and Signal Processing, 2002
This paper presents an in-depth study of nonlinear long-term prediction of speech signals. While previous studies of nonlinear prediction focused on short-term prediction (with only moderate performance advantage over adaptive linear prediction in most cases), successful long-term prediction strongly depends on the nonlinear oscillator framework for ...

LONG-TERM PREDICTION MARKETS

The Journal of Prediction Markets, 2013
Most prediction markets focus on events with a short time horizon such as forthcoming elections. Contracts are typically traded for periods measured in weeks, but rarely exceeding a year. There is great interest in using prediction markets for events with a long time horizon such as climate change outcomes. This paper develops an analytic framework for

Predicted Long-term Outcome of Corneal Transplantation

Ophthalmology, 2009
To analyze graft survival and the outcome of the corneal endothelium after corneal transplantation in a single model to predict the long-term prognosis of these grafts.Cohort study. Data were recorded prospectively and then analyzed retrospectively. One thousand one hundred forty-four consecutive eyes of 1144 patients who underwent corneal ...

Quantitative Prediction of Long-Term Failure of Polycarbonate

Macromolecules, 2005
Time-to-failure of polymers, and the actual failure mode, are influenced by stress, temperature, processing history, and molecular weight. We show that long term ductilefailure under constant load is governed by the same process as short term ductilefailure at constant rate of deformation.

ECG compression using long-term prediction

IEEE Transactions on Biomedical Engineering, 1993
A new algorithm for ECG signal compression is introduced. The compression system is based on the subautoregression (SAR) model, known also as the long-term prediction (LTP) model. The "periodicity" of the ECG signal is employed in order to further reduce redundancy, thus yielding high compression ratios.

Predicting the Long-term Outcome

1979
Brief reference to this aspect of the assessment of the long-term outcome has already been made both in the review of previous reports and, in passing, in several earlier chapters. The relationship is examined here between a number of features of the acute and convalescent periods after injury, including the various indirect measures of severity ...
