Temperature and strain discrimination using a single tilted fibre Bragg grating [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
A fibre optic sensor capable of discriminating between temperature and strain, using a single fibre Bragg grating, is presented. The technique exploits the core–cladding mode coupling of a tilted fibre Bragg grating (TFBG). The core and cladding modes

In Situ Amine Formation to Modulate MOF‐Derived PdIn N‐Doped Carbon Catalysts

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
An amine‐assisted approach converts PdIn‐MOF into PdIn intermetallic nanoparticles embedded in N‐doped carbon. In situ‐generated amines trigger early Pd nucleation, producing smaller PdIn domains than direct pyrolysis. Amine sterics and basicity tune composition and particle size, while solvent and amine co‐determine textural features.

Biosensing with optical fiber gratings

open access: yesNanophotonics, 2017
Optical fiber gratings (OFGs), especially long-period gratings (LPGs) and etched or tilted fiber Bragg gratings (FBGs), are playing an increasing role in the chemical and biochemical sensing based on the measurement of a surface refractive index (RI ...

Localized Temperature Monitoring in Mouse Brain during Light Delivery via a Non‐Planar Tapered Fiber‐Integrated µRTD Sensor

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
We report a multifunctional tapered optical fiber integrating a conformal micro‐resistance temperature detector (µRTD) for local, real‐time thermometry during optical stimulation. The platform combines light‐delivery and temperature sensing within a minimally invasive footprint, enabling detection of sub‐degree cortical heating under representative ...

Fibre grating refractometer sensors for composite process monitoring [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
Optimum performance from advanced composites requires careful control of the resin matrix during cure. This is to ensure there are no cure induced voids and to minimise the build up of internal stresses.

Ultra‐Confinement of Polaritons in Single Atomic Layer Ag Photonic Quantum Dots

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Strong confinement of surface phonon polaritons of silicon carbide was achieved in photonic quantum dots fabricated from van der Waals heterostructure of epitaxial graphene over single‐atomic layer silver. Scattering‐type scanning near‐field optical microscopy combined with an analytical approach, developed to reveal local propagation constants with ...

Polarization Dependence Suppression of Optical Fiber Grating Sensor in a π-Shifted Sagnac Loop Interferometer

open access: yesSensors, 2010
In the sensing applications of optical fiber grating, it is necessary to reduce the transmission-type polarization dependence to isolate the sensing parameter.

Transverse Load and Temperature Sensing Using Multiplexed Long-Period Fiber Gratings

open access: yesPhotonics, 2020
The simultaneous measurement of transverse load and temperature using two long-period fiber gratings multiplexed in the wavelength domain is presented experimentally.

Large‐Area 2D Metasurface‐Based Triboelectric E‐Skin Arrays: Contact & Proximity Tactile Mapping with Broadband Acoustic Readouts

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Metasurface‐engineered NC‐TENG arrays integrate tactile pressure mapping, non‐contact gesture sensing, and acoustic signal readouts in one ultrathin module, and outperforms pristine PDMS in terms of electrical output and real‐time spatial mapping for next‐gen wearables.

Fabrication of long period fiber gratings of subnanometric bandwidth [PDF]

open access: yesOptics Letters, 2017
This Letter reports on the fabrication of long period fiber gratings having subnanometric bandwidths in the 1500 nm spectral region. Large gratings have been photo inscribed in a high NA fiber; the grating pitch and the order of the HE cladding mode are optimized to produce gratings with a large number of periods and prevent the coupling to TE, TM, or ...
