Mineral Deposition From Liquid Precursors Triggered by Complementary Polyelectrolytes

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Polyelectrolyte additives can delay or prevent crystal nucleation in supersaturated solutions of insoluble mineral salts such as calcium carbonate. This work reports that adding a second, oppositely‐charged polyelectrolyte leads to immediate mineral crystallization from such metastable solutions.

Polarization Dependence Suppression of Optical Fiber Grating Sensor in a π-Shifted Sagnac Loop Interferometer

open access: yesSensors, 2010
In the sensing applications of optical fiber grating, it is necessary to reduce the transmission-type polarization dependence to isolate the sensing parameter.

Tailored Diketopyrrolopyrrole Derivatives for Efficient Deep‐Red Organic Lasers

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Tailored diketopyrrolopyrrole derivatives exhibit high stable amplified spontaneous emission with single or dual bands. Incorporated into distributed‐feedback lasers based on one‐ and two‐dimensional dichromated‐gelatin diffractive gratings, these materials provide a robust, flexible platform for integrated organic deep‐red light sources. ABSTRACT Deep‐

Long-Period Grating with Asymmetrical Modulation for Curvature Sensing

open access: yesApplied Sciences
We propose and demonstrate a curvature sensor based on long-period fiber grating (LPFG) with asymmetric index modulation. The LPFG is fabricated in single-mode fiber with femtosecond laser micromachining.

Optical Fiber Interferometers Based on Arc-Induced Long Period Gratings at INESC TEC

open access: yesSensors, 2021
In this work, we review the most important achievements of an INESC TEC long-period-grating-based fiber optic Michelson and Mach–Zehnder configuration modal interferometer with coherence addressing and heterodyne interrogation as a sensing structure for ...

Boosting Conversion Efficiency in Zn3P2/InP Solar Cells Via Nanoscale Junction Engineering

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This study demonstrates the efficacy of selective area epitaxy (SAE) in enhancing the conversion efficiency of a Zn3P2${\rm Zn}_3{\rm P}_2$/InP heterojunction solar cell. The impact of the SAE pattern dimensions on the performance parameters is investigated. Small size opening limits Jsc because of current crowding whereas large size opening limits Voc

Sensing Characteristics of Side-Hole Fiber-Based Long-Period Grating

open access: yesAdvances in Materials Science and Engineering, 2013
Long-period gratings (LPGs) have been fabricated in a side-hole fiber (SHF) by using a pulsed CO2 laser. Sensing characteristics of this SHF-LPG to temperature surrounding refractive index and bend have been investigated.

Patterned ELR‐Gelatin Hydrogels Enable Rapid Endothelial Monolayer Formation via Bioactive Matrix Chemistry and Surface Topography

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Micro‐ and nano‐patterned elastin‐like recombinamer (ELR) hydrogels integrate bioactive matrix chemistry with defined surface topography. The combined cues promote rapid endothelial cell capture, alignment, and monolayer formation on soft substrates.

Twelve-Day Reinforcement-Based Memory Retention in African cichlids (Labidochromis caeruleus)

open access: yesFrontiers in Behavioral Neuroscience, 2016
The formation of long-term memories for food sources is essential for the survival of most animals. Long-term memory formation in mammalian species has been demonstrated through a variety of conditioning tasks, however, the nature of long-term memory in ...

Fabrication of long period fiber gratings of subnanometric bandwidth [PDF]

open access: yesOptics Letters, 2017
This Letter reports on the fabrication of long period fiber gratings having subnanometric bandwidths in the 1500 nm spectral region. Large gratings have been photo inscribed in a high NA fiber; the grating pitch and the order of the HE cladding mode are optimized to produce gratings with a large number of periods and prevent the coupling to TE, TM, or ...
