Properties of length-apodized phase-shifted lpgs operating at the phase matching turning point

open access: yes, 2012
The characteristics of length-apodized phase-shifted fiber optic long period gratings with full and partial nanostructured coatings have been explored theoretically and experimentally.

Large bandwidth, highly efficient optical gratings through high index materials [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
We analyze the diffraction characteristics of dielectric gratings that feature a high index grating layer, and devise, through rigorous numerical calculations, large bandwidth, highly efficient, high dispersion dielectric gratings in reflection ...

Long Period Fiber Gratings Inscribed With an Improved Two-Dimensional Scanning Technique

open access: yesIEEE Photonics Journal, 2014
We demonstrated a promising CO2 laser irradiation system based on an improved 2-D scanning technique. Such a system could be used to inscribe high-quality long period fiber gratings (LPFGs) with good reproducibility of grating inscription, which ...

Effect of Low-Doses of Gamma Radiation on Electric Arc-Induced Long Period Fiber Gratings

open access: yesSensors, 2021
This work presents an experimental study on the effects of gamma radiation on Long Period Fiber Gratings (LPFGs) in a low-dose test campaign to evaluate their eventual degradation.

Slow light with flat or offset band edges in multi-mode fiber with two gratings

open access: yes, 2007
We consider mode coupling in multimode optical fibers using either two Bragg gratings or a Bragg grating and a long-period grating. We show that the magnitude of the band edge curvature can be controlled leading to a flat, quartic band-edge or to two ...

Long Period Gratings Formed in Depressed Cladding Fibres [PDF]

open access: yesBragg Gratings, Photosensitivity, and Poling in Glass Fibers and Waveguides: Applications and Fundamentals, 1997
There has been a significant interest in long period gratings, primarily due to their applications in gain-flattened erbium doped fibre amplifiers [1]. Up till now, cladding modes supported by the glass-air interface of an optical fibre have been used in a forward mode coupling scheme involving also the guided fundamental mode of the optical fibre ...

Fiber optic long period grating sensors with a nanoassembled mesoporous film of SiO2 nanoparticles [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
A novel approach to chemical application of long period grating (LPG) optical fibers was demonstrated, which were modified with a film nanoassembled by the alternate deposition of SiO2 nanoparticles (SiO2 NPs) and poly(diallyldimethyl ammonium ...

NanoMOF‐Based Multilevel Anti‐Counterfeiting by a Combination of Visible and Invisible Photoluminescence and Conductivity

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This study presents novel anti‐counterfeiting tags with multilevel security features that utilize additional disguise features. They combine luminescent nanosized Ln‐MOFs with conductive polymers to multifunctional mixed‐matrix membranes and powder composites. The materials exhibit visible/NIR emission and matrix‐based conductivity even as black bodies.

High Temperature Long Period Grating Thermo-Mechanically Written [PDF]

open access: yesSensors, 2009
An optical fiber transducer able to work in high temperature environments is experimentally demonstrated in the laboratory. It is based on a permanent long period grating (LPG) written using a new technique based on a thermo-mechanical approach. Device precision was experimentally checked by means of repetitive thermal cycles between 25 and 950 ºC.

Enhancing Direct Solar Water Splitting via ALD of Multifunctional TiO2/Pt Nanoparticle Coatings With Engineered Interfaces to GaAs/GaInP Tandem Cells

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Multifunctional atomic layer deposited coatings and interface treatments enhance direct solar water splitting on GaAs/GaInP tandem cells. Optimized TiO2/Pt nanoparticle bilayers ensure durability and catalytic efficiency with minimal optical losses, while H2 plasma pretreatments maximize photovoltage and interfacial charge extraction.
